I too am so glad I found I found this site! My daughter (18) started Yaz three months ago after trying three other birth control pills to help with very painful cramps. The first three did not eliminate the pain, but the Yaz did and also helped to clear up her skin. She also liked the fact her periods were only two days in length. However, after one week into her third pack she got a terrible migraine headache with dizziness (never had one before). By the fourth day of a headache that was unrelenting we headed to the ER where she received a migraine "cocktail IV and had a CAT scan (which returned normal). The migraine was relieved that evening from the IV, but returned the next morning. We headed back to the physician's office where she received another migraine "cocktail" this time intramuscularly and had blood work (which returned normal). She was put on different types of migraine medicine over the next few days and missed 6 days of school over the course of this time period! She was also scheduled for a brain MRI the following week which also returned normal. Her other symptoms were exhaustion feeling like she couldn't get out of bed, weight gain, chest pain, spotting, sweating during the night where she changed her shirt multiple times and not wanting to be with her boyfriend.... all things other women reported on this site! I asked my physician about the Yaz being the cause of the migraine and he didn't want to jump to conclusions by taking her off, but said it was up to us. Finally, 11 days after first getting a migraine, my daughter couldn't stand the headaches any longer and decided to go off the birth control. She has not had a migraine since going off the pill and is back to her happy self! I thank everyone who posted something on this site. I have told everyone who has a daughter considering birth control to never try Yaz!
I took Yaz for 3 1/2 years. I honestly felt as though it was a miracle drug up until recently. 3 months ago, I suffered a panic attack after experiencing a stabbing pain in my chest, just under my left breast. I ended up in the ER. They ran a bunch of test. My heart was fine and there were no blood clots. After I started getting over the fact that I had a panic attack, I started suffering from extreme bouts of anxiety. One night, I started shivering & my hands & feet were extremely tingly. I went to the doc the next day and she prescribed Xanax & told me to practice deep breathing. During this time I started experiencing daily headaches that were excruciatingly painful (I had these sporadically over the last three years, but they started coming daily) I was also experiencing dizziness/vertigo, fogginess, major pressure in my sinuses and ears, muscle cramps, borderline hypertension, chest pains, blurred vision. After finding a site like this one I out two and two together and instantly stopped taking the Yaz. I have been off it for 1 month. I haven't had a headache since day 2 of going off it. I had a kidney infection after a week off. My blood pressure has dropped 30+ points. Muscle cramps are mostly gone. Vision is improving. For the past 3 weeks I haven't experienced any dizziness/vertigo however yesterday & today I have felt a minimal amount. My ears also feel full again so it's probably from that. Going off of Yaz was the best decision I have ever made. My first period hasn't been fun compared to what it was while on the pill, however keeping healthy is more important to me. I used to tell friends, "Hey, Yaz is great" when they complained of their birth control. Now, I tell people to steer clear.
This is a bit unusual for me, since I am a guy, to post in a thread whom the majority are woman, but I am on the receiving end of the side-effects of Yaz. My girlfriend was taking it for about a year, when her mood started changing for the worse: short temper, decreased sex drive, and just paranoia. She has been off of it for about a month, and she IS getting better, but it scares me to death that she MIGHT not get much better. I read the first few pages, and didn't see anything to really clear my mind; who has gone off of it, and gone back to their absolute normal selves?
Any reassurance would really put a damper on my increasing paranoia and fears with this situation.
Thank you very much!

I was taking YAZ for a little over a year. When the pill first came out, it was so popular and recommended, that I switched from the one I used to take for 3 years to YAZ. I wasn't feeling good at first and everything gradually started changing. I became extremely tired constantly and needed lots of sleep. I was a happy 20 year old and used to be very energized and healthy. After YAZ I started losing interest in everything, became extremely depressed for no reason. I was getting excruciating stomach pains, terrible headaches all the time, nausea, weight gain, and extreme decrease in sex drive. I don't know why I didn't get off the pill sooner, but its been 3 months now that I haven't been taking YAZ and everything has been improving drastically. In the first month alone, I started doing things I once loved, staying up much later and just enjoying my life. I haven't had any stomach pains and my headaches are extremely rare. My boyfriend is a lot happier too!
YAZ may not be bad for you, but definitely pay attention to new symptoms if you're trying it.

I have been on YAZ for about 6 months. I was taking in a required medicine with my Accuatane. A few months ago I started getting some small migraines that went away after an hour or two.
Today I woke um and my entire left side was numb. I was unable to speak properly and my hand felt no pressure when I hit it against the counter. About an hour later I was sitting in school taking a text, and was unable to comprehend the problems. I've known the material for months, it was very basic. I began writing letter backwards and broke into chills. By breating became very painful and I had to go home. My head was exploding for the next 6 hours and I puked several times. I had never had migraines before this medicine, and especially never had such a complex one. 12 hours later I'm still dizzy and having trouble writing.
A pediatrician, examined me three hours after the migraine started. At first she thought my blood sugar was low, so we're going to get that tested. But now we think it was the YAZ
I've had small mood swings for the past three months and even though I was running 4-5 miles a day in cross country, and later 2 hours of hard practice in basketball, I still gained about 5 pounds.
I'm going to see a neurologist this week to see if he thinks it was the YAZ that caused it. I've now thrown out all my pills.

I was put on yaz because my first birth control was making me severely moody with terrible acne. for the first 5 months i felt as if things were going great on yaz until i started to get severe abdominal cramping, plus moodyness and fatigue, because the pain was to unbearable for me to sleep, for about two months straight. it was the worst pain ever! when i did finaly go to the doctor they believed that i had an ovarian cyst. Although i know that this is not one of the listed side effects common for yaz i still believe that it is the reason that i had an ovarian cyst. I also believe that yaz is the cause of this because as soon as the doctors reached a diagnosis, i was put on a different birth control, and for almost six months now i have not had any abdominal pain or mood swings. And now because i have already had one cyst i am told that i am more likely to have more, and i know know that this pain was probably caused by YAZ.
must say this is a great site. I have been on yaz for two months now married 25 yr old and am ready to stop . This last week i have had severe ankle swelling anf fluid the pain is unbelieveable and i can not sleep from it.
I also having bad headaches. Unwanting to leave the house. I also feel different about my husband which i have known for years

I was on BC for 5 years. During my time taking yaz of 3 years, I had extreme moodiness, weight gain, and head aches. I liked how I rarely had a blemish and it stopped my hot flashes experienced from other BC pills.
Now, 18months after taking yaz. I have extremely horrible acne altering me from promotions and opportunities. My hot flashes are back. And never have I seen what a blood clot was until recently all over my body. I have never even had cyst until now.
The biggest sadness from this all is the acne I'm currently stressed with. The doctor cannot find any treatement that works that will not have me take BC pills again.
Also, now my periods are irregular, I have major anxiety, hot flashes, skin rashes, blood clots on my legs and scalp.
After speaking to several dermotologist, I'm getting that the reason to my severe acne problem is due to yaz and will not fade my system until 2-3 years after taking yaz. I'm absolutely horrified because I've always had a clear face all my life until now.
