hello - my surgery was 4 months ago. I could not stand or walk without assistance. The ACDF was on C3-C6. I have a long graft. My legs are now stable and I can walk, but I still have a lot of pain in my arms and shoulders. Pain relievers are wonderful but temporary. I cannot wait to get off of them, but until then I will take them to have a better quality of life. I believe this surgery is different for everyone but there is the pain afterwards. Now the focus is just on maintain balance. My age and arthritis is challenging, but I am too young to go through this..At 59 I will keep going.

The EXACT t thing happened to me. Immediately Upon waking from surgery I had immense pain in right shoulder arm ehicj was never there before. What happened? It's actually MORE painful than my original left side pain! Scume

I am just about 3 months out and I am in a lot of pain. Pain is in neck on left and goes down between shoulders and down left arm. It shoots as if being stabbed by a knife. The same as pre surgery. I spoke with a lady yesterday who had surgery the day before me and she has very little pain if any, maybe some stiffness. I'm seeing the Dr. in about 10 days. I do have stenosis and degeneration so maybe that's why pain is still there.

I can related to what everyone is saying here. I had a cervical fusion C4 - C6 in 2013. I felt better for about 6 months. Then after that, forget it! I am so sorry I had the surgery. It is now 2017 and I am in pain EVERY SINGLE DAY! My trapezoid area from my neck, down through my shoulder blades, and radiates under my arms! I am still working so I am sure sitting all day doesn't help. I have gone back to the place where I had the surgery done and of course they xray it and tell me it healed perfectly! Then why am I in pain? I can understand how people can get addicted to pain killers. However, I dont take anything! I try to help myself holistically. Heat and ice, Biofreeze, yoga, and stretching. I even bought a new mattress. NOTHING WORKS! I have now concluded that it is my "new normal". I really think the AMA should investigate into these surgeries and see exactly how many people really need them and how many people really feel better afterwards. Because from everyone I talk to who has this done, IT WAS WORTHLESS!

I'm in the same boat as you, except my pain is behind my right scapula with pain radiating down my right shoulder dome my arm and into my pinky and ring finger. Had my C6-C7 fusion nearly 7 years ago without any noticeable reduction of pain in my right arm and the pain behind my right scapula has worsened. I'm up to 600mg of neurontin 3 times daily with minor results in pain reduction. I've done some research about the brachial plexus and I believe I may suffer from what's called a Brachial neuroma, a benign cyst that grows around the five nerves that exit the spine and branch out and go to the arm. I've seen 3 Neurosurgeons who say my C -spine nerves aren't pinched so that leaves the brachial plexus nerves to investigate. So see my Military Dr 25 May to see where I go from here. I'm at the point that a right arm amputation would at least give a pain free life.

I have upper arm pain after 4 months but been advised its due to change in my posture. After 40 years of sitting at desk my body still wants to rotate to rhs but my neck won't let it and pressure is causing pain. Advised to strengthen t he shoulder muscles

Yup. Same thing and I'm 3 1/2 months out. Now thinking I may have a shoulder issue.

i had a cervical decompression and fusion using a cage and plate one week ago. The pain down my left arm ( which I had never had before - it was always the right) started 4 days after surgery. It has got worse and now I am in pain with both arms. The pain is severe in the morning and with activity and also wakes me up at night. It radiates down my arms with tingling and numbness in my fingers. Its awful and I really hope its a passing thing. Can anyone enlighten me?

I have a cervical fusion in 2014. Arm and shoulder pain returned a few weeks after surgery. After doing some research, I found I needed a proper support pillow for sleeping. I got a pillow for neck and upper back support and my pain was gone. Also, my doctor advised that if I sleep on my side, I should sleep on the left side with the type of surgery I had. This advice, combined with the support pillow, has left me virtually pain free.

What is the brand name of the pillow? Wherr did you purchase the pillow?
