Autoimmune neutropenias caused circulating antineutrophil antibodies are another form of acquired neutropenia that results in increased destruction of neutrophils. Acquired neutropenia also may be seen with viral infections, including infection with HIV. It can be cyclic in nature, occurring at intervals of several weeks.
