I had a rhinoplasty 5 months ago,
The smell coming from my nose makes me gag, I rinse it I've been putting sanitiser up there to try kill whatever is making the smell, Nasal sprays etc. I figured I may have caught a cold and the smell is due to that but I don't feel ill. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
A foul smell after a rhinoplasty can be concerning.
-
Infection: One potential cause of a bad smell after rhinoplasty is an infection. Even if there are no other overt signs of infection (like visible pus or significant swelling), the smell alone could suggest some low-grade bacterial presence.
-
Crusting: After rhinoplasty, it's not uncommon to have some degree of crusting inside the nose. These crusts can trap bacteria and produce an unpleasant odor.
-
Healing Process: The healing process itself can sometimes lead to odors as tissues repair and regenerate.
Using sanitizers or other substances not specifically designed for intranasal use could be harmful and might exacerbate the problem. It's crucial not to introduce any substances into the nasal passage without a recommendation from a healthcare professional.
Recommendations:
-
See Your Surgeon: The most crucial recommendation is to see your plastic surgeon or the healthcare professional who performed the rhinoplasty. They can perform a proper assessment to determine the cause of the odor and recommend an appropriate treatment.
-
Nasal Irrigation: Your doctor might recommend saline nasal irrigation to help clear out any debris and reduce crusting. This can be done using a bulb syringe, neti pot, or other nasal irrigation devices.
-
Antibiotics: If an infection is suspected, your doctor might prescribe a course of antibiotics.
-
Regular Follow-Up: Keep regular post-operative appointments to ensure that everything is healing as it should and to catch potential complications early.
Remember not to self-treat without guidance, especially after a surgical procedure. Hope you will get better soon.
