Vcr26, is the blood clot in any way related to your surgery? Like is it on the same side, or any where near your incision? Where is the blood releasing from, an opening?
Reply
Apparently it was. I went to the ER and turns out it's a bad infection of the incision area. Mind you, the surgeon told me he was cutting much deeper inside and not on the outside where this clot/infection is. I got antibiotics and will hopefully get better in 48 hours. Thanks bvictim, and everyone else on this forum. it's been a real help pre and post opp.

This is me again. I had my surgery now almost 2 weeks. Everything I have read in this blog has come to be true. I am feeling so much better. I got a medical donut to sit and it made ALL the difference. I started getting out and about a little and my anxiety and overwhelmingness started going away. I am still discharging light blood and started my period today. Wearing a pad. I can now touch myself and it is beginning to feel a little more normal. Still pangy hurt but so much better than before. I have a follow up in 9 days. The doctor ended up removing the entire gland. What was supposedly 4 mm ended up being as big as a tennis ball. 5 sets of internal enclosures. Bruising is going away. So now I am two weeks out - 8 to go. I will follow up again.

Hi Girls

Had surgery to remove the entire gland, 3 days ago and everything went fantastic! I was up on my feet 3 hours after the op, it was painfull, yes but bareable. The next morning i felt like a new person. uncomfortable down there when sitting down and feeling little pinches of pain, but just took my pain meds and went about my normal routine with the household,(not picking up anything heavy!) The kids made there own beds and mom prepared food and even did the washing! I took several times during the days just to go lay down and rest. I keep the wound clean with some antiseptic cloths, just pressing slightly on the wound and then cover the entire wound with an antibiotic cream (bactroban). There is almost no more leaking from the wound. The thing that excites me the most, is that I made this decision for a permanent solution! I have suffered for years with bartholin cysts on my left side and finally realised as long as I have this gland, the problem won`t go away. It was unfair to my husband (and myself) because I tried to avoid intimate moments, because then you know your gland will start working up a cyst agian! My gynea was great and is a well respected doctor! The wound looks good and neat. I don`t look any different there, except for the few stitches and incision, wich i`m sure will heal and dissapear in a few months time.

I will recommend this for anyone considering doing this procedure! If I think back on the hell I went through, with this constant cysts, I blame myself for not doing this years ago. I`ve just turned 40, and they say life begins at this age. Well, if you are 20, 30 or 60, don`t give up on the quality of a cyst free life....just do it!

Take care of yourselves. xxx

Hiya, I am on my 12th day following my excision of bartholins gland and small golf ball sized cyst removed. My experience has been and still is very painfull, I thought I was going in for marsupulization but was told it would be best to excise it and remove the gland completely to avoid it coming back. I was not told about the after effects and loss of feeling, I have a lump where the cyst was an am still very swollen. The bruising has gone now and the scar is inside, I have little cuts to the labia and it is kind of hanging, but also swollen and looks like a little tongue poking out! know it sounds funny but it is not very nice, this swelling has also gone down a bit since, so I am thinking it will continue to go down and back to normal.

I am worried about the numb feeling to my right side, I also keep getting stabbing pains in my outer lip, and it makes me jump out of the chair. I have bathed every day with antiseptic lotion and it is getting better, but I really want to find some hope that I will regain the feeling down there. But from what I keep reading I think im going to be like this forever!!!!! I did not have time to investigate the long term affects before I had it done, as I was in on a day case and on of the first on the list!.

I would recommend to anyone going for this procedure that you find out all the information you can before going through with it, I am still in the process of healing but I will post again soon with an update of how it is going.

Hi Again, This is an update. This is now my 16th Day after the op....I am feeling alot better now, it is funny how soon you can feel better. I managed to sit most of the day without the sponge doughnut seat thing. Also, have made love and it felt very strange at first as it was a little bit numb still, the scar area was a little bit sore but not too bad. We then made love again and it felt so much better. I think the numb feeling will go away eventually which is good. I think if it is possible for you, you should try to make love as soon as possible after this procedure because I think leaving it too long will make you stay numb...Im no doctor but that is my theory. Think about it, all the nerves have to go back and mend and this will happen with some sexercise lol. I will update in a few weeks and let you all know how things are. I hope you found this useful and I wish you well with everything :-)

UPDATE: 10 WEEKS SINCE REMOVAL OF BARTHOLINS GLAND AND GOLF BALL SIZE CYST:
Hello again, its been 10 weeks now and I am 100% back to normal, my numbness has gone and the feeling returned to normal, the hanging lip has also gone back into place. I get the odd pinchey feeling when making love but it is not uncomfortable. I feel great and happy that everything has settled down and I am also happy that I will never have to go through this again as the gland was removed. I would urge anyone to have the gland removed, it is a long healing process but it will never come back. Good luck to anyone who is about to go through it and I wish you all the best for your recovery.

Thank you for the update. I had my surgery 5 dys ago and my follow with dr. is in 3 days. I am not even sure what surgery I had was it marsupial or total removal. I am in severe pain. I cannot walk comfortably and not sit at all. I am completely miserable and did not know I would be in this position. The positive feeda=back up top helped me find hope. 10 weeks sounds like a forever so I have 9 to go. Wish me well.

Today was my 3 week appointment. I am so much better. My results came back negatve. My cyst was the size of a tennis ball and it was thought to be 4 mm. WOW. The first week was the most difficult. My doctor has been wonderful. I thought I was doing great but it seems I tore the sutures (5 layers of enclosure). I am still 500% better than in week one. I am back at work and my anxiety is gone. I still have a pangy feeling and it is tough feeling. The doctor says it is healing great but that I cannot do any strenous anything for at least 8 weeks - so no exercise. That is hard - really hard. I need the exercise for my pschy. I go back in 3 weeks. This blog has been so helpful. Everything I have read has just about been my case so I guess we are text book examples. If I knew how painful this would have been I may have elected not to have it. But I am glad I did - glad the pathology test was negative and glad to be on my way to being normal. I have not been normal for 20 years. I can't wait to see how this makes me feel when I am healed - hopefully no more problems. Thanks everyone.

vcr26, sorry i did not respond sooner, I am glad you got the help you needed! That sounds really scary.

JLott, trust me it will all be worth it in the end when you don't have to tolerate random bouts of pain at the worst times! Just keep strong, and take it easy, that is my biggest advice ( second to getting the surgery ). Don't force the healing process and you will heal wonderfully. I recommend taking some arnica orally and topically once a day to give your body that extra boost.

& To all the other ladies, please be strong you can get through this!

Today is my one month anniversary. i am so much better than i was. One thing I suggest is do not pick up anything heavy. I picked up a case of water 3 weeks into my surgery and it pulled my stitches. I was feeling so much better and well on my way to recover and then after I picked that up I hurt. I hurt to sit, walk anything. It was a different pain. I felt like my insides were going to fall out - I knew I pulled the stitches. I went to my dr and she confirmed it. I have taken 4 sitz baths everyday for a week and i am getting better. Oh one more thing, be sure to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and drink a lot of water. It really helps when voiding. Any type of pressure in that area is painful and worrisome. My next visit is in a few weeks and I will post then.

When I was 16 I had gotten a surprise of genital warts from an ex boyfriend I had hooked up with.  After 6 months of trying to freeze them off every two weeks I eventually had to get a surgery to remove them completely. After an hour long surgery I ended up healing up great within a month. I thought everything was fine.  Four years later I get this bartholins gland cyst infection.  within 48 hours at most, the cyst had gotten so big it was rupturing. I got the cyst removed after a 30 minute surgery on the exact same spot as my genital wart surgery(coinsidence?).  After 3 months I thought it was healing good and I feel swelling again.  Luckily I know what it might be so I try to have an epsom salt bath, by the next morning I couldn't sit it or walk properly it was so painful. Another doctors trip for me equalled another surgery.  Because I had caught it so soon the cut was only small but it didn't seem like the doctor drained it properlly.  I have now just finished an epsom salt bath again and it still feels more swollen but a little less tender. In the bath I tried to drain it myself for about an hour but I didnt know if it was actually working or not.  Does anyone know why it might keep coming back and how I can prevent it without having to deal with it every three months for the rest of my life? I don't want another surgery but I have the feeling it's the only way:(

xox unfortunate gal.

Wow, I really wish i found this site ages ago! I've had in total 11 operations regarding my bartholin glands. I've had 4 marsupializations (excuse spelling, too tired) on my left gland and 5 on my right. On my 2nd marsup I was told by my surgeon at the first hospital I was attending that I should have my left gland removed to stop further reoccurance. When they examined me they came to the decision that it was 'too dangerous' to have this gland removed as it was covered in blood vessals. I said fine and just dealt with marsups. When my right gland flared up the 3rd time, I was told that I should have the gland removed. I waited 3 months for the operation which I as going to be having at 'Whittington Hospital' in Archway, London. I also had another flare up in between and then had the okay to do the op. The op took around 2 hours or so and by the time i woke up in the recovery room, there was an extreme amount of pain. An intense burning and stabbing pain. After large doses of morphine I found the situation becomes more bearable. I get wheeled out to my ward to  greet my lovely boyfriend, who heavily supported me through this, thick and thin After much love and fuss from the nurse and family I start to feel overly faint. I felt as if life was just rushing out of my body. I realised I was bleeding intensely and it wasn't long before I was back in theatre having my stitches re-done and a blood transfusion. I was awake during this process and the surgeon that was doing it was a different person. He was confused and didn't understand why it had happened. I realise through someone elses blog here it's probably something about the nerve endings and blood vessals not being burnt properly (sorry can't remember much of what was said in it). Either way, it happened. They had actually also attempted to removed my left gland as well but failed. I have no idea what he did and whether he not he cut around that area, but judjing but what i'm FEELING, he definitely poked around in the wrong place and bit too much!!My surgeon who is a consultant so I understand a very busy man, has not answered one single damn phone call or email from me regarding my post-operative pain. I feel like he's damaged me and has basically just left me in the dirt. I've been through many different doctors, gyneocologists and one neurologist in the last year since my bartholin gland removal operation. The neurologist is the last person I have seen and he won't see me until I take these anti-depressants (small doses of amitriptyline for neuropathic pain which we think was triggered by nerve damage during the operation) I know what these pain killers do. They're anti-convulsants. Cannabis has been the best medication for me in the last year. It is the best anti-convulssant I know as it's natural, works very well and isn't harmful. (Please do not lecture me at all about cannabis, I've done all my research and seeing as I'm a bit of a vaginal pain connoisseur, I know what works well for me!) Either way, all I want is some reassurance that the pain I'm experiencing won't last forever. I can have sex 5/10 times. Sometimes it's just too painful but sometimes I don't feel anything at all. I haven't really had sex sober at all since the operation. I wouldn't try it myself yet either as even though it's been a year on I still think it'll still be to uncomfortable. All you amazingly strong ladies out there, thank you so much for telling your story! You are not alone! Hi Nataliew,
First off wow, you are a very strong lady. I am amazed at all of the tough moments you have gone through and commend you greatly. Cannibis or not, you are definitely a trooper!

I had my surgery done by a specialist whom all he does is remove bartholyn glands. He gave me a lot of the info that I know now and posted in this forum... based off of what you've wrote you should sue your doctor for malpractice. Someone with your history of reoccuring cysts should definitely have the gland removed right away. Its not safe for your reproductive system to keep having the cysts build up. Whoever your first surgeon was, was an id**t ( sorry ) and didn't do a good job. You are going to feel weird sharp pains long after you've healed, and sex will be weird. You need to have the other gland removed though!! Otherwise all that surgery recovery is for nothing. If you can make it to the states I can recommend my guy in NY.

Your surgery sounded like such an experience. They do say the gland removal surgery is the bloodiest surgery in gynecology. Please don't have sex until at least a month of healing, you don't want to give yourself long term effects, its too risky. Bless your boyfriend for being by your side, unfortunately not everyone is blessed with such understanding partners.

I don't know what happened with that first one i wrote. It said: i have had 5 bartholins gland abscesses just this year. They have been large and painful and just will not go away. I currently have a cyst that is about 5inches by 1 1/2 inches. I am finally scheduled for the removal of the entire gland this coming Monday. I am extremely nervous. I have heard good and bad stories. I am very grateful for this website bcuz i know now i am not alone in this. If any one had any suggestions oon what i can do to people myself if anything at all i would appreciate it. I will update after my surgery. Wish me luck :)

I'm on day 11 of recovering and I was ssooo not prepared for the discomfort. Have been taking regular pain killers and handing it okay so far. Lil bit of bleeding and the small sharp pains like some of you have said you had to. Gotta say thought I was going to be healed up ALOT faster and am super frustrated that I can't even walk at a normal pace. Sitting is okay although for some reason driving is the worst guess its the way my seat is? So glad I'm not alone with this lol. Anyone know how soon after its okay to pleasure yourself? I could use a pick me up lol

Hi All, Me Again. Two months after my surgery i'm now scheduled to have yet another surgery. I've had a chronic infection since the last surgery and The Dr says they got as much as they could out, but apparently they didn't get the full gland since it created a new cyst on the outside this time.

I tried eastern medicine, a wound clinic, but nothing worked so now they have to operate from the outside where the new absence was formed and not the inside like before. this means scaring and some abnormality - a total downer.

has anyone experienced this? I"m wondering if recovery will be different when the incision is from the outside and not inside.
