Hi Is it really tht bad? Im currently 10 weeks pregnant n been told by midwife tht need to have this removed before birth as cud cause problems. But am so scared. Mine comes up of a oval shapped lump. it is very painful after sex n is in my right lip. It has lanced itself a few times over the past two years but never gone away. N the antibiotics never helped as it came straight back. I hate hospitals at the best of times and never been in one for surgery or major stuff. So am petrified. Ne advice or words of wisdom for me??? xx
Hi! I wanted to share my positive experience about the surgery I've undergone last week. My entire gland has been removed and it was really big (my doc' said it was the biggest she's ever seen) and located deep inside as well. The operation went very well and I needed painkillers only for two days - in the afternoon after the operation and the next day. I could hardly feel any discomfort at all in the next days. So I wanted to share my story to encourage others and say it's not so scary at all, nothing to compare with the pain when giving birth, for ex. I was lucky to be treated in a good hospital and I had an excellent surgeon. I have no swelling at all and everything looks nice, because she has also made me a plastic surgery after the excision of the gland. I guess the success of the operation depends largely on the surgeon so I'd recommend to get the best one you can.
I would also recommend going to the doctor as soon as you can, it's not the kind of things you can treat yourself at home. I've tried all the methods of home treatment and nothing helped. As much as I hate operations and all things related to hospitals, I had to make this operation and never ever regretted it, it's absolutely worht doing.
Good luck to all!
I' m very encouraged to hear such a positive experience. What city do you live in? I am hopeful it is somewhere close to me so perhaps I can use your surgeon!
I've been having reoccurring cysts for about 2 years (I am 20). They are ALWAYS excruciating. I am able to drain them at home if I take constant epsom salt baths and use compresses, but it is difficult for me to stand the pain for the entire week until it ruptures. I have had two marsupialisations which of course are ineffective.
This has completely ruined my life. I suffer with anxiety, self harm and depression. I suspect it has been caused by having to suffer with this every 3 weeks.
I am willing to consider having the gland removed but I have so many worries that Doctors are simply unable to answer.
How bad is the scarring afterwards? I don't want to look deformed down there.
Will I always have pain during intercourse?
How long till the scarring and lumps of tissue go away? I presume the answer is never?
I wish these awful things didn't exist. They have ruined my life. I cry about it everyday and the thought of having this operation terrifies me.
Hi! Yes, I wanted to encourage others so that's why I wrote about it. Unfortunately, I live very far from you, in Eastern Europe, in Moldova. I went to a private hospital and that made a difference for me, along with an experienced surgeon. Of course I was very worried and scared before the operation, but thankfully everything was fine. I am still on sick leave, but that's because I don't have to walk a lot and just to let it heal. I'd also not recommed to read too many negative replies (as I did) because indeed it's not that bad at all, at least, if you're overall healthy and have good results for your analysis.
Hi sophie,
it's been just 2 weeks after my operation but I can say for sure there are no deformities/lumps down there, as I've had the plastic surgery done there as well. I went to a private hospital and that made a difference for me, along with an experienced surgeon. My cyst was very large, the size of a big potato I's say. The surgeon said they removed the excess skin and made it look fine down there, so don't fret about it. As for the operation itself, you wil not feel anything. They will make you an IV to administer general anesthesia and you'll wake up afterwards just fine. I felt some mild pain immediately after the operation, but the pain killers worked fine and, as I said, I already refused them on the 3rd day.
So don't think about it too much and let it control your life, just have the courage and go to the hospital to get rid of it once and for all. In my case, home remedies didn't work at all.
Don't worry, if you're young and healthy, I'm sure you'll be just fine.
good luck!
Thank you so much for replying! That is great that they did the plastic surgery as well - perhaps that is something I could discuss with my surgeon before hand. It's a relief to hear some successful stories for a change.
Hi Sophie,
Just like the other poster said there is no reason to be concerned. You can have the surgery done with an experienced surgeon and the only hard part is the post recovery, I would say give it a month and a half before you are fully recovered. As for everything else you will be fine, things will feel slightly different but its not the end of the world. What would you rather have, pain and suffering or a different life with no more cysts? Take the leap and get it done! Trust me, and the rest of the girls here, who have experienced this. I am so thankful for my surgery. My moniker is Bvictim ( short for Bartholyn Victim ) but now I realize I am no longer a victim to this disaster, just a survivor.
Floral, where do you live?
The surgery was the best thing I have done for myself. I suffered from a BC for 20 years. I was embarrassed and inconvenienced by it. I had the cyst removed by a wonderful dr. The surgery was a piece of cake. It was definitely a very difficult recovery though. I had no idea I would be in pain for so long. I am 12 weeks out now and so much better. I could not sit at all or find a comfortable position no matter what. My mom gave me a donut ring to sit on - better than the drugs for sure. It made all the difference I used the donut for about 7 weeks .I can sit on a hard surface and get around just fine now. I have not had intercourse yet and have not used a tampon as I do not feel ready for it just yet because I still have a little bit of uncomfortableness. Every day is a great day now and each day is even better.
I agree that you should have the surgery. In the end it is so much better - just remember that the recovery part is hard. I did not expect it and that is the one thing I would make sure to share with the patient if I were the doctor. Life is much better without the cyst. Good health to you.
Hi, it didn't hurt me for ex, there was just mild pain for 2 days. It feels a little bit uncomfortable/unusual of course, because I had a long operation, but I'm fine, really. Also my doc said if I came earlier, the operation would be so much simpler and shorter (mine was 2.5 hrs long).
Hi,
They put you under so you do not feel/remember a thing. The only painful thing is the dull down there the day post surgery and trying to pee. Otherwise, you get better and back on track.
Out of curiosity, during your healing was there a hard lump where the excision was and if so did it eventually go away? I am at week 3 of healing. Of course I hear horror stories on the internet and I am concerned whether this surgery will affect my sex life.
Hi, during your recovery did you notice that where the cyst was removed there was a hard lump (seems to be along my stitches) and did this go away? I am in week 3 of my recovery and horror stories on the internet don't calm my concerns over pain that may or may not go away. Thanks.
Hi, my advice is not to read these horror stories and stop googling it cause you worry yourself too much with all this stuff. I had very small lump on my stich, but it's gone by now. My doc prescribed me an antiseptic cream to be used on that area and inside, applied on the gaze. I am 1,5 months after my surgery and everything's perfect.
