Is it safe to use birth control in lupus patient? Should I consult someone before? I am already on med for lupus. I am considering pills only as a method of contraception. I would appreciate any suggestion.

I advise that you discuss with your physician the use of birth control pills. They are containing estrogen do not causes SLE but they are thought to increase the risk of flares in patients who already have the disease. There are some birth control pills that contain mostly progesterone or low-dose estrogens and these may cause fewer problems. However, if you have to use birth control pills, they should be prescribed by a physician who is familiar not only with contraception but also with SLE.
