Hi Melissa. I feel exactly the same :( I'll be 21 soon and like yourself, I feel like my day revolves around my bowel movement! That or the feeling that I might actually die, as I generally feel like someone is standing on my chest. I first noticed that my bowel movement had changed about a year ago, but I tried to put up with it. Now, it really has started to wear me out, as I worry about being too far from a toilet on a daily basis! How sad is that! I've just had a chest scan, but I didn't realise that there might be a link between that, pain I've had below my right rib cage and the bloating/abnormal bowel movement. I think I'll go back to my doctors during the week, but I just feel like it'll never be resolved :(

Hi I am 21 years old and have been struggling for years with bowel movements like that one girl said above I feel as if im never done, lately Ive been having bad back pain ,a little nauseau, stomach cramps like a period but I never get one(im on depo)Im not pregnant, I have been researching things trying to figure out whats wrong.I have to say alot of these womens symptoms above sound like (not neccessarily)but could be linked to CANCER!It would not hurt to ask to be tested for these things. Stomach bloating, back pain, frequent urination, nauseau, pain during intercourse, strange bleeding, changes in bowels these are ovarian cancer symptoms. One girl said she had alot of these, like suffering with an extremely bloated belly,PLEASE harrass your doctor about your symptoms and suggest this.not something you want to wait on..

sounds like Irritable Bowel Syndrome to me. Bloated Nauseated Cramping problems off and on with constipation diahrea, hard stools...t. Its common with students and stressful occupations. I get it every now and then near finals week. Maybe suggest it to the doc when you go in. Its a quick fix with an anticholinergic.

Hi guys, 21 year old girl here.

Im glad to hear there are more people like me. I have had the same symptoms for about 3-4 years now. Doctors just think its my IBS, but i know it isnt just that.

I am bloated 24/7 which makes me look 9 months pregnant, and I only have a bowel movement if I take laxtives. If i dont take any then i basically dont go at all. Ive only started feeling sick and dizzy for the past few months, but now its most days.

My boyfriend also thought I was pregnant haha because I was experiencing nausea and feeling sick alot. (but i'm not either) I'm always tired, no energy. This isnt how a 21 year should be!!!

What advice have your doctors gave you?

hello i recently got diagnosed with IBS, i was bloated all the time and it was painfull then it got to the point where it was painful with bowl movement to and i also got blood with my stool.. i got referred to a specialist and it happened that i had split in my pipes and had a botox injection in the split to help it heal quicker and make it stronger.. this was about a year ago and since then i lost all my 2 stone that i put on due to this.

i really suggest you keep going to the doctors and keep pestering them untill they do something its what we pay tax for and theyve never got the time of day for us!

I have a few suggestions for you as I have IBS and I've found that eliminating lactose (milk, cheese, butter, basically everything dairy) has helped me a lot.

Also, I know it's not the best thing in the world but anti-depressants are sometimes prescribed to help you calm down and stop anxiety as this can make the syptoms sooooo much worse. I would definitely say the decision to go on them is not to be taken lightly as coming off them can be hard (not through addiction, just because the chance of relapsing is high ad there are some side effects so it's preferabe not to go on them in the firs place if you can).

Try Colpermin tablets (peppermint oil) and make sure you stay away from alcohol. Even if you don't want to just try it for a few weeks just to see if it helps as it is such a bad irritant to pretty much everything in your body!!

I really hope you find something to help you soon as I totally know what you're going through and it is NOT fun at all.

Hi everyone,

I am 20 year old girl, and I have similar symptoms, except the blood in the stool bit - nevertheless my stool is weird; it is either diarrhea or I'm constipated! Its disgusting, painful, embarrassing and just, an necessary but sadly integral part of my life. I have had blood tests done, endoscopy, ultrasounds - all they keep finding is gas. Ive even been transferred over to pediatricians and psychologists. Ive spent more time trying to get whats in my head straight when a lot of the time my tummy needed fixing.

My father has been having the same issues for as long as he can remember too.

Dad has recently discovered that we may both be Gluten intolerant - even though the tests have turned out negative for Celeac disease. Also - Fructose (sugar in fruits) has seemed to be a problem of late. I have stayed away from both and feel NORMAL a lot of the time. Whatever normal is but it feels GREAT! No bloating, and I actually feel more hungry. Im just a bit worried about missing out on important nutrients. However, at the same time it means I have been staying away from JUNK so I feel cleaner.

So overall it has worked somewhat for me and now I only feel bloating when I "break the rules" or when I eat something im unsure about.

Look it up guys and its worth a try - may suck a bit at first - because it seems everything has Gluten + Fructose in it... but its so worth it. I swear.

All the best.

Hi All, I am 34 and had been suffering with abdominal pain, loose stools, small, weight loss ,headaches joint pain, muscle weakness confusion a lack of ability to concentrate and tiredness for about six months when I first went to the doctors. At first My GP listened, he checked my abdomen and requested stool and blood samples. These were given as he wanted to rule out any bacterial issue, once he had the results back he said that they showed inflammation in my body and he seamed to know exactly what was wrong with me and although he didn't give me any information other than he wanted me to see a specialist to test for some of the inflammatory bowel disease I felt like a diagnosis was in sight. I waited and after a few more months I had an appointment for a camera investigation top and bottom. If you have to have this done Please don't panic the bottom end is uncomfortable but I think its the though of what's going to happen that is more upsetting. If you have to have the top end the hospital will give you a sedative which allows you to stay in a co-operative state but you are not aware of what is happening and helps with the gag reflex.. When I had this done the specialist explained to me that they would take biopsy of my insides and this combined with what they saw on the camera would allow them to confirm or reject several inflammatory bowel conditions. I later learned that these were Crohns disease and Celiac disease. The test results for these were negative I didn't have these. Here is the double edge sword cause every time you get tested for something you prepare for the result to confirm what's wrong with you hoping that it will lead to a treatment that can fix it, so being told you don't have the disease means that you have to go on living with the symptoms until you can get checked for something else. Each time I went back to the Doctors I felt that he became less and less interested and like one of the other poster on here like they were keeping a cure from me... because a doctor who we all trust cant tell me what's wrong I assume wrongly that what ever is wrong with me is very serious and I am not being given all the facts or worse that its all in my head and I am being a wally and I just need to toughen up. Eventually I returned to see the specialist again who said that he thinks I may be intolerant of Fiber. He says that not all people need lots of the stuff and that it can cause all of my symptoms apart from the joint pain and for that I need to see another specialist ... that is another battle for another day I think :-). So He gives me a low residue diet sheet and suggests that I follow that, we book a follow up appointment for 6 months time. On the low residue diet All fruit and veg are out as are any seeds, nuts whole wheat's and brown rice. This leaves you with Meat, dairy and white bread, pasta and rice. So I gave it a go and I have to say that there was not a great improvement In how I felt ... It did reduce the amount of times I had to go to the toilet but then its a low residue diet so the clues are there !! I have gained a good deal of weight so I am now larger than before the weight loss My skin hair and nails are terrible and I am so down about not eating the foods I love its mad. To top every thing off I have now developed a pain under my ribs on the right side it starts off like a dull ache and builds to really bad pain that makes me cry out hence why I am posting now I cant sleep :-( so I go back to the doctors who thinks I may have Gaul stones but that it could also be indigestion and has prescribed me omeprazol. This is a PPI and used in people who have excess stomach acid. The advise was to take the drug eat a fatty meal and if I got the pain then go back and see them and they would arrange for a scan. I am now a year and three months from my first visit to the GP and have been experiencing the symptoms for just under two years. The doctors don't seam to know what's wrong and they don't seam to understand the horror of living each day feeling as if you did the marathon yesterday. If the doctors are not rushing to give me my diagnosis then maybe they don't have one. I have found that a tablet called Buscopan can work to reduce the bloating if taken regularly, Colpramin was effective for a little bit, the pain under my ribs and in my abdomen can be eased with a hot water bottle and light exercise. The more I look at these topic boards its becoming apparent to me that I am not alone we all have similar symptoms and all feel equally baffled by why were are suffering a cure seams a long way off to understand this gives us power we are in charge of what we do to help ourselves , keep food diary and symptom diary's try and spot the patterns for yourself. good luck and thank you for reading

Wow, I also typed in my symptoms and found a whole lot of people with the same symptoms with no answers, it is weird to me however that most of you are in your 20s and I'm 15, I've been having the same issues with constipation etc, my stomach is bloated and I'll feel hungry but then feel nauseous and I've also had heart burn. In the past week I've gained almost 10 pounds and I'm starting to get really worried, I really hope someone finds some answers.

To all those with bowel and stomach problems, in one form or another, could well find the following helpful.
I was given this advise 20 years ago and have been grateful ever since.

Have two (2) teaspoons of pure Apple Cider Vinegar in a tumbler of water,3 times a day with meals.
It certainlywont hurt you and hopefully, like myself ,you will be able to get back to a normal life.
Give it at least a month before you feel the benefit.
Good Luck

i had all of the same problems...i tried a number of herbal remedies when the dr's couldnt help and wanted to do a whole slew of invasive tests. the only thing i tired that worked was a supplement called Samento. its cats claw and some other plant from the rainforest and i have no idea why but it worked. usually its used for lyme disease but helps with many other things as well. the brand i used was nutramedix but there's a lot out there. i think you want to make sure its pao free. in about a month after starting i was back to normal which was startling because id been so messed up for the past year. good luck
