Hi, my son is 8 years old, and he often comes home from playing with his friends with a bloody cut. I always clean it up, but sometimes it gets infected and I have take him to the hospital. I would like to know what is the proper way to clean a bloody cut.
Hi, I know your troubles. I have two boys myself, and they’re 5 and 9. They often play football and ride a bike, which is the easiest way to end up with bloody cuts. It’s usually nothing serious, so I clean with alcohol the area around the cut from dirt and dust. I never put alcohol on the cut itself, just around it. When the cut is clean, I apply a clean dressing over it, and it heals quickly. However, once my older son came home with serious cut on his arm. It was deep and dirty, so I controlled the bleeding by applying pressure with a clean gauze, and took him immediately to doctor. He cleaned it with some fluid and covered it with a clean dressing.
