This happens because when you vomit, you vomit up the fluids in your body, then your body gets left with nothing, then the bumps come up because your skin gets dry, and inflamated because of the lack of fluids.

Drink a lot of water or tea, to speed them up. Should be gone in a bout 12hrs to a day.

The first time this happened to me (about a year ago) my face completely swelled up and I got the rash on my face around my eyes.
It has happened almost every time I have thrown up after drinking since. Sometimes its just around my eyes and sometimes its over my whole face.
My boyfriend thought that I was allergic (well intollerent) of alcohol, but this wouldnt happen everytime i drank so i didnt that could be the reason.
the rash doesnt itch or burn or anything like that but sometimes its more red than others. I find it usually goes away after a two or three days (most unattractive though).
It was great to read that it isnt so abnormal and to see a reason for it.

I want to help everyone out there, so here is my story.

Okay, so last night, all I did was drink Vodka. about 10 glasses or so.

I did have one glass of champagne and then ended up completely messy and stumbled home somehow.

I had 3 slices of pizza and it was good at the time. but when i woke up this morning, i had much trouble gagging and throwing it all up.

This is a result of my breakout. And i quote the previous reply because it all makes sense. im dehydrated to the max and burst my capillaries.

This totally happens to me too and I can not find much of anything about the subject. If I get sick and throw up a lot it kinda looks like a battered face.

I am very glad that most of you posted on this - My 2 year old daughter had this happen to her the other night and I was about to rush her to the emergency room. SHe had a coughin fit that ended up making her throw up. Her face was blood red while throwing up, and she threw up about 4 times in a row, about 3 minutes worth.... Anyways about 30 miutes later (after she ate dinner of course) she got these red, freckle like spots that appeared all around her eyes and on her eye lids. This information was very helpful - my mom said she thought it may be the blood vessels... And it dod sound good... but you just never know when it comes to kids that small.
The things that you discribed was exactly what she is getting when she throws up - She did it again last night, and they are back.
tiny red freckle like marks, not raised bumps, around the eyes and on her eye lids.
Thank to you all. :-D

yeah i've been getting these since I was 13, didnt really consider them a big problem. Last night I had really bad nausea and the spots were wayyyyyy worse than usual. I almost look like I have a black eye!

Just wondering if anyone actually is an MD and knows what will speed their fading? Iron, water, nutrients, lotions, etc?

And how common is this? I've never known anyone else with it.

thank goodness there is a topic posted on this! i had no idea what it was and like others i thought it was a part of alcohol poisoning.
It has happened only once before (I currently have the spots) and the doctor told me the same thing then, that me puking so violently caused increased pressure in my face and blood vessels and thats what caused the spots..
last time it went away about somewhere between 2-4 days (its been a couple years, i cant remember) its good to know im not alone =)

Aah, this makes so much sense! I'm currently pregnant and getting morning sickness, I woke up with this rash around my eyes on Monday and thought it was some terrible pregnancy-related condition

Good to know it's just all the vomiting that's causing it.

And whoever posted about iron supplements - that would make sense in pregnancy too.

hey... i am in my late twenties and earlier this year, i threw up and i had these red blotches on my face... every doctor that I went to told me to use an anti fungal cream... but of course i knew that i had no such thing such as that.... last week i threw up again and within seconds i saw the same thing occur.... are you guys sure its just broken blood vessels...

guys so last night i threw up and da same thing happened to me literally right after i puked so yes i think its the blood vessels ... i spoke to my doctor and sad that its nothing to worry about because it can be that but he said it should go away within a week and if it doesnt one should go in and see a doctor.

glad to know that it's a bit of a common thing. For years I have come up with red blotches (mainly on eyelids and upper part of face). It is interesting how some people look at you like you are a freak from out of space. Mine tend to last a few days, although depending how violently I have thrown up.
Thanks for sharing your experiences and I am put to rest that it is quite normal.

I'm glad you guys posted this. After being nauseous for hours today i finally threw up viloentley twice in a row and my face ended up blood red. A few minutes ago i went into the bath room and i looked like someone tried to put hickeys all over my face (these red freckle like things). its never happened before either. No idea why i got sick but i've been nauseous for a week or so on and off anyway. Thanks!

No need to worry about these "blotches." As others have noted, these are tiny broken blood vessels. They are a result of having your head face-down (say in the toilet or a bucket) and the force and pressure exerted on your face as your body expels content from the stomach. I get them regularly and have for over 20 years. There is no permanent damage and the marks will disappear within a day or two.
