Like all of you, I have the same problem. I didn't even notice it myself until a friend pointed it out to me. Very weird. I am diabetic type 2, my GP says I have metabolic syndrome. I am 54 years old. My father had lymphatic cancer. I have had slight issues in the past with my thyroid. I suppose I will ask my endocrinologist about it next visit. Being as he has never seen me without wearing a high collar, I never thought to mention it to him before. I'll post again if I find out anything from him.

Thanks, that would be useful. I have been kicking the idea around of seeing an endocrinologist for awhile. Had plans to do it then Christchurch had the big earthquake and I left it for a bit! It will be interesting to hear what he has to say.

I also have the same swelling.  No pain, just ugly bulges on both sides of my neck, where the neck connects to the shoulders.  The other day after about a week of eating a mostly raw diet, I noticed the swelling was gone.  When I cheated on the diet the next morning it was right back.  I just found these massages for lymph drainage.  Thought I would share.

Self Massage for Face and Head

1. Clear lymph nodes at neck.

 A. Clear both sides of neck  • Divide side of neck into 2 sections – below ear and above collar bone.  • Gently stretch skin downward 5 to 10 times in each section.

 B. Clear Terminus (notch above the collar bone)  • Gently perform “circles” 5 to 10 times.

 C. Clear back of neck  • Divide back of neck into 2 sections – at hair line and base of neck.  • Gently stretch skin downward 5 to 10 times in each section.

 D. Clear Terminus (notch above the collar bone)  • Gently perform “circles” 5 to 10 times.

2. Clear lymph nodes in front of the ear.  • Place fingertips on each check, closest to the ear.    • Massage gently downward in this area, 5 to 10 times.3. Clear lymph nodes at back of the ear.  • Place fingertips on the bone behind each ear.  • Massage gently downward 5 to 10 times.

4. Clear the temples on each side of the face.  • Place fingertips on temples.  • Massage gently downward 5 to 10 times.

5. Clear the underside of chin.  • Divide underside of chin into three sections on each side    of the face, from chin to jaw bone.  • Gently massage 5 to 10 times in each section, moving in an outward direction .

6. Clear front of chin.  • Divide underside of chin into 3 sections on each side of the face,    chin to jaw bone.  • Gently massage 5 to 10 times in each section, moving in an    outward direction.

Now I just have to learn to stick to a raw diet, and I might have this thing licked.

Have you had an allergy test? It could be something in a non-raw diet that sets you off. I've had allergy tests, hair tests and I'm allergic to nothing, have no heavy metal problems - zero. I'm into my fifth week with an osteopath doing the lymphatic drainage (which I do at home too). So far, nothing. Got some nasty bruising and she wasn't at all rough. Still, I have had this for 18 years, so might take some shifting. You're experience could be good for others to try - we can all do better with our food. I'm lucky - we live on a farm and grow most of our own and eat barely anything processed, but that isn't the option for everyone. I would love to have my neck back!

its the "no man's land" area between your shoulder and neck muscles. Does the swelling feel like a mass, fluid, fat?? Many, including myself, describe it as a "gel pack" type of feeling. A kinda mooshy but also kinda solid lump. Sound familiar??

I've had this problem, and my ears, nose and throat guy said that my salivary glands were a little bit swollen, and that I should press them several times a day, and chew sugarfree gum to help saliva flow into my mouth. I have been pressing the glands so that more saliva flows into my mouth several times each day, and my whole neck doesn't swell and choke me as much as it did before. I still have the gel-type swelling above my collarbone that seems to come up from the breastbone and split into two, like a blood vessel was swollen, but I don't feel as choked any more.

Hi anyone who is interested in the lymphatic drainage idea! I have done nearly a dozen sessions with my osteopath and it has done nothing. She is pretty disappointed too. She says I am very tight through the pecs, especially on the left, but her sessions and 'home sessions' have made no difference at all. If I had the money perhaps I could keep trying but it was the osteo herself who said there should have some change by now and there has been none. I am seeing my rheumatologist on April 10th and will discuss TOS with him, but will also discuss Lupus (again) and TNF drugs before this extra knuckle I seem to be growing takes over my hand! Seem to be very active and sore with my RA right now and my neck 'lumps' are very, very tender.

Just because lymphatic drainage hasn't worked for me, PLEASE don't write it off! It may well work for some of you - we are all different! Besides which, it doesn't hurt and its a peaceful time-out.

I'm off to continue my hunt (slowly - my feet are sore.....)

Cheers from New Zealand.

MUST READ---I have read all the post and I feel for you all, because I have the same thing. I just noticed it recently. The amazing part to me is that the day before I noticed this I was researching a lot of meds I was taking because like most of you it started as I was and still am battling a respitory Infection. I noticed that both Prednisone and any corticosteroids can cause , what is known as , fat redistribution, After reading this I noticed that I had it the next day, or at least I noticed it then. I have severe anxiety , and I believe that it was GODS way of letting me know not to panic. So if you have ever taken prednisone, medrol dose pack, advair or symbicort or other Cort. Steroids then you can probably rest assured that it is caused from that. I still recommend you get checked but this will hopefully ease your mind. Mine gets worse when I have asthma , bronchitis , or plain stress. Research says it goes away once you stop all the steroids but mine has not. I will pray for each of you. GOD Bless Dr. Shoop Jr

I have and believe that this is the cause , it's called fat redistribution. I am a male 35 with asthma and severe case of acute bronchitis right now. They gave me a shot of decadron then methylprednisone then 10 mg of prednisone for 2 weeks , no taper , just take until they were gone. Now this, left side is worse than my right but both are as described by everyone else. Steroids is the cause in my book. Some say it will go away after stopping prednisone but its been 3 weeks and no change. GOD please help us all, I ask for healing for all the ppl on here suffering. In CHRIST name I pray. Amen

I also experience nausea when what seems to be the swelling breaking loose. Mine comes and goes, I started out with ear infections and still experience some sharp pains along with the swelling at times. I have been to an ergant care 3 times..they referred me to an ENT but they say it is not something they would handle and sending me back to the original doctor..I'm at my witts end
