Hi. I have swelling above both collarbones, more on the left. I was diagnosed with Madelung's disease Feb. 2015. They do not go down, are painless, and have grown slightly. They are a 'fat disorder'. It isn't in the lymph glands. I am a 53 year old non drinking female. This disease affects men more than women, alcoholism is common, and more common in people of Mediterranian descent. The 'horse collar' type pattern is one type of the disease. It is always symmetrical, and fat is distributed in specific patterns depending on type- the collar is type 1.

I have had the swelling for about 3 years. Just recently, they sent me for chest x-rays and Cat Scan. Nothing found. They wanted me to go today for pulmonary function test and I told him no, I think it is s waste. My chiropractor said he had seen this in other people and that it was just llymph nodes that did not drain properly and it had a buildup of fluid. Mine also feels just like a gel pack and then you can feel the lymph nodes in there. For now, I'm going to just go with I'm fine and wait and see. I would love to know if anyone comes up with an answer. I do have pain in this area at times.

Madelung's tumors are rubbery feeling. They differ from other tumors because they are not encapsulated. At first, I thought mine were lymph nodes, an ENT diagnosed me. Madelung's disease is rare.

I've been in remission from Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma for seven years. I was involved in two MVA's within two weeks. I went to a chiropractor who performed medical massage with some sort of device which he vertically put pressure from my neck down to mid back. It was quite painful at times. After several visits, I noticed bilateral lumps in the supraclavicular fossa. I panicked thinking it may be a relapse of lymphoma. My oncologist feels a borderline lymph node on each side. My ENT and internist feel they are fat pads. The lumps are not lymph nodes, but soft and squishy. I have an appointment with the oncologist again tomorrow. He will probably order a CT scan. I can't remember having these lumps until going to the chiropractor. I wonder if it is a build up of lymph fluid. Just hope it's not a relapse of lymphoma. Will keep everyone posted as to the progress of my diagnosis.

Definitely keep us posted! I'm curious to see what your oncologist says. Best wishes!

Well, I was right. I went to my oncologist today and he said the lumps were lymph fluid from the chiropractor's treatment. I was surprised how he did not seem as concerned as he did my last appointment when he said I had borderline nodes and I needed a CT scan, nor did he tell me the lumps were lymph fluid. He did not order one today and said he could not feel any lymph nodes. I told him I could and he said it's normal to feel small lymph nodes. I was a little confused, but I'm glad he does not feel the lumps are lymphoma. I wish more people would post after they have seen their doctors and received results of tests.

Hashimoto’s Disease, also called chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis or autoimmune thyroiditis, is an autoimmune disease. Hashimoto’s disease often leads to reduced thyroid function, or hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is a disorder that occurs when the thyroid doesn’t make enough thyroid hormone for the body’s needs.
Many people with Hashimoto’s disease have no symptoms at first. As the disease slowly progresses, the thyroid usually enlarges and may cause the front of the neck to look swollen. The enlarged thyroid, called a goiter, may create a feeling of fullness in the throat, though it is usually not painful.
Make an appointment to see an Endocrinologist.

My husband has the same symptoms. Swelling on both sides above his collar bone. He had it last year. It went away but has since come back and has stayed that way for months now. At his visit to the drs today the dr insisted on a ct of his chest stating it could possibly be the big C. Feeling very concerned since an article I read this could be a sign of Lung cancer spreading to another part of the body. Just trying to stay positive. Ct will be done by monday 6/6/2016
