I have a back injury - prolapsed discs at L4, L5 & S1, & have also been diagnosed with early onset cervical spondylosis, & have been taking strong opiate based painkillers for 13 years. Am currently on Buprenorphine transdermal patches, changed from Fentaynl patches as my body became too tolerant of them & I was having constant withdrawal symptoms.
It is now early June, & by last Christmas I was exhausted & highly stressed, to the point of having panic attacks, which also happened in my sleep! (Due to having to push myself too much to do a job which needed doing, & had a few major worries at that time) Thankfully the problems sorted themselves out so the stress was lowered.
Over Christmas I caught a virus, which gave me flu like symptoms, & I fought it on & off for 4 months - it just kept coming back. During that time I also developed a bad ear infection, which came back 3 times, & a severe lung infection. I had countless courses of antibiotics over a 4 month period, & finished off with 2 courses of prednisilone to calm my asthma, which had flared up badly due to the lung infection. A week after finishing the steroids & antibiotics, I went into hospital to have a Mirena coil fitted, which contains slow release hormones.
Since then I have felt more & more ill. I have been fighting extreme fatigue & exhaustion since the virus first started at Christmas. For the last 2 months (since coil fitted) have been getting even further fatigued, & developing pains all aver my body - particularly my shoulders, arms & legs, & also regular bad headsches. My skin keeps hurting to the touch, & have been getting tingling in my fingers & feet. In the past 2 weeks, any exertion, ie: walking a little quicker than usual, usual chores like lifting washing basket, etc, has resulted in swelling throughout my body. Walking a little faster the other day felt like I was trying to wade through hip high mud - my legs felt like they were going to give up, & all I wanted to do was lay down, rest & sleep. To my horror when I got home that day, I found that my legs were dreadfully swollen, thighs, knees, calves, feet - didn't look like they belonged to me! My left arm has also been swelling, particularly around the bend of my elbow, at the bottom of my bicep, after just lifting my four year old daughter, & my arms & legs have become weaker - particularly my left ar, & my hands & fingers have been permanently swollen over the past 2 weeks, in varying degrees. I have had a low grade fever for the past few years, which the dr puts down to my meds, but in the last 6 weeks it has progressively got worse. I have hot flushes & will suddenly overheat & sweat badly, then start shivering a few minutes later. Even sitting in a very hot bath I've had goose bumps & haven't been able to warm up at times!
Today I noticed a swelling above my left collar bone, which has got worse as the day has progressed, & now a swelling is starting above my right collar bone. I've got a cold, & have a really bad headache, keep feeling sick, & just feel 'ill'! I've been feeling ill for nearly 6months now, & just keep feeling worse. I have no energy to want to do anything. Everything is an effort, & all I want to do is just sleep, but I wake up still tired. I found this forum due to being worried about these swelling above my collar bones. I had an appointed with my pain clinic consultant, & he wrote to my GP asking him to urgently refer me to either rheumatogoly for tests, or back to my gynaecologist. I've been trying to make an appointment to see my GP since they received that letter, & was told to call Monday to try & get an emergency appointment to see him, which I'm going to.
I am worried. Sorry for the long post, but I have the same symptoms as most of you who have posted on here, & hope that somebody is still around for some support, please?

Hi is anyone still on here for this issue?
About 3 1/2 weeks ago I was on omnicef and prednisone.... For sinus infection. I took 3-4 days worth of prednisone and then stopped (it was making my body hurt). 1-2 days after I stopped my neck looked swollen so I went back to the walk in clinic and the doc said you have soft tissue swelling from prednisone and to stop taking them. (Which I had already stopped). A couple days went by and I woke up in a full blown panic attack and went to the ER I informed them of my neck issue.. The doc looked at me like I was an alien when I told him what the walk in doc said about the prednisone causing this. So they did blood work, chest X-rays and ct scan with dye on my neck and said everything looked fine but he could see the swelling on Ct scan. So worried and not sure on these answers I was given. Anyone have any updates?
Thank you for reading

some people get that moon face shape reaction this is
side effect to the prednisone. Once this medication gets
out of your system your neck and any swelling should all
go back to normal.
