I too quite smoking about 5wks ago. I was at the movies about 4 days ago and I thought I was going to call an ambulance because I felt that I couldn't get that important deep down breath. I became light headed, I thought I was having a heart attack. I got up and went where it was quiet, walked around and concentrated on my breathing. Breathe from your stomach and not your chest. Concentrate, stay calm, for me, this really helps. I smoked a pack of small cigars for 14 yrs. I still get shortness of breath, but I concentrate on my breathing techniques and it does help... Good luck!

I recently quit as well about 4 weeks ago...did the cold turkey method. I have since had/have breathing issues. sometimes it feels like my chest is completely full of air and i cant inhale anymore....starting to freak me out a lot.... I only smoked for about 3 months and sometimes I wonder if I have lung cancer now.

it sounds like your an as****e for saying stuff like that. you only have to smoke 100 packs of citgs to get copd . you could get it real soon or maybe never. your chances of getting it much later are about 60 % for everyone who smokes at least 100 packs.

It doesn t have anything to do with how long you have been smoking, you can get S O B if you only smoke a few months. or 50 years or more. when you light up the goblets in your lungs stop producing mucus the cilia begins to die your lungs will not produce no more mucus till yo9u stop smoking no matter hpw many colds you get neither the flue no mucusl. stop smoking and in a few days its like some one exployed a can of shaving cream in your lungs . blocks the exchange vessel in your lungs. no oxygen can get in no co can get out sob. got it ?

S O B ITS LIKE BREATHING DIET AIR. Most of the people who come here thank they are dying of cancer or copd .all coughing should end after 3 months if not p-lease see your Dr.

Your breathing should start inproving in the 4th month and be great after 6 months if you are not over weight.

Cilia is latin for eye lash they are self movers in lots of the bodys works. in the lungs they are killed off by the tar in cigs, but when you stop smoking after a week or so they begin to regrow but they are not enough of them for a month to a month and a half to start moving enough mucus. to cough up so till then your cough is dry , then it gets wet and nasty. after 2 and a half months all the mucus should be gone. 3 months no more coughing. good luck.

Smoking kill some people in less than a year . its like a lot of other drugs, I know of people first time coke sniffers die their first time. remember we are all different, what you can do a lifetime and be safe with, another person dead first time.

I am 48 years old, and I quit smoking 7 months ago, and have similar issues like allot of you do, trouble staying asleep, numbness, tingling in my face, and legs, and random spots, arm, hand, foot, etc. I take Tylenol PM at times, and that has really helped me stay asleep at night. Of course like most I have gained some weight as well about 15 pounds. I feel depressed and have some anxiety issues as well. I pray this goes away soon. In addition to this I was diagnosed with the “Extremely Mild Emphysema” back in April, I was told by my Family physician and Lung specialist, that it was caught so early it can barely be seen on a CT scan, so if I quit smoking I should never have any issues, and live a long life, that was the last time I picked up a cigarette. I was a mild to moderate smoker for the last 25, never smoked over a pack, maybe half a pack a day, sometime less, I always was very active, and ate well. I feel I was blessed to find out I was starting to have lung issues before it became a much worse issue, but sometimes I feel scared inside that I may have a ticking bomb inside of me, and I pray that the emphysema does not progress, The Drs told me that they really feel I don’t have anything to worry about, my lung function test was really good, in fact my Lung specialist said, she expects my lung functions to improve even more just from quitting smoking, and everything else looked fine, but sometimes I still worry. I always wonder if there are other people out there going thru a similar situation as me?
