I am so sorry that you have joined us (the broken patella club) I see you posted 3 months ago and hope that you are doing well. I broke my patella in 4 places in January 2012. It has been a rough journey. I do wish I could read updates on people that have broken their patella 2-3 years post injury. I'm about to hit the two year mark and am unable to walk up or down stairs. My muscle atrophied pretty bad over the 8 weeks I was in that brace. I had a second surgery to remove the hardware a year later and made a world of difference. Everything was great until recently (about 8 weeks ago) I started to feel stiffness in the groin on the opposite side. I know that it could be do to over compensation but it could also mean hip arthritis. I truly hope that you are recovering well as many have, some already running, that is my wish for you. Take care and keep up your rehab!

Hi I had a question!! I fell directly on my knee cap and ever since I cannot touch it and it feels like something it moving, but I can still run, work out do everything I normally do, and it doesn't actually hurt unless I touch it. Does it hurt all the time if it is broken? I think I just bruised it really good, but I feel something moving in there.

I fractured my knee cap on 7/26/14 due to a fall, but did not go to dr. until two weeks later because I thought I just had a bad bone bruise. After going to Ortho doctor (no surgery) , I wore full leg brace for 7 weeks - no bend in leg for 4 weeks, 40 degree bend for 3 weeks. Have been out of brace for 1 1/2 weeks and have been going to physical therapy for 3 weeks (3 more weeks to go). I am able to walk but still have some pain, but I still have some swelling in knee and especially in lower leg. Does anyone know if the swelling in lower leg is common ?
----seems that it is just going go be a long, slow recovery process.

Hi! I broke my knnecap six and half weeks ago. No surgery since it was not displaced. Spent six weeks in straight leg immobilizer. I am in a dial bent leg brace set at 70 degrees. It is so painful to bend. Is this normal. Doc didn't order physical therapy, I'm just doing some bending and stretches found online. Will the pain subside?

Hello , I know this post is from over a year ago but i can find nothing else. 4.5 weeks ago i fell and fractured my kneecap laterally. the doctor said it was not displaced. I went back 2 weeks later and he said it looked fine. I have been wearing a knee brace. About 10 days ago i started having pain much worse than the original fall. I am in France right now and my doctor's office has been closed for 5 days. He will be back tomorrow. My question: What made you think that your originally non-displaced fracture had displaced? What changed? Did you do something to displace it? I have done nothing. Now, 4.5 after my fall, I can hardly walk with my crutches, I have no stability in the knee, and I have pain non-stop. It is like a burning pain. I hope the doctor can see me tomorrow.

I didn't fall but all of a sudden couldn't walk. Broken horizontal tibia with complex meniscus tear. Did at work but don't know what happened. Workman comp fighting me. Was going to be able to keep my state insurance and retire in October. Do I understand those feelings. I feel hopeless right now. Can't even have surgery as I live alone

Hello-how is your knee now? Did they get it to bend on its own? I'm 5 weeks into recovery and only at 45 degrees. It feels so stiff (like a pole or stick)

I fell 6 weeks ago and broke the patella in several pieces. Am still waiting to hear from the surgeon as what is the best way to go (this after 3 visits). I am 82 years old and can tell you get as much info as you can. There is pain, loss of sleep, and mental stress. It will not go away until I am able to get
the pros and cons Seems to be a mixed bag of "what to do".
