If one were to build a resumè and solicit sponsorship, which would look better, placing higher in smaller races with a slower time or placing lower in larger races with a faster time?
Just a hunch, but I'd say a combination of both. Being able to win the small races and then place high in the biggies would show you don't rise/fall to the level of the competition.
I'm thinking a sponsor is going to want the "air time" out of getting their logo noticed out there, so proof positive to lots of racing is probably an important part too.
Interesting post..

I think consistent times would be something as well. Placing well in smaller races maybe good for some, but chances are the larger races are more lucrative due to bigger purses and amenities, hence the attraction.

But don't sponsors want people to see their product in a positive light? I would think placing higher at smaller races would get the product more attention than just being another face in the crowd in a really big race.

Certainly exposure is what the sponsor would want, placing in any race would be key, more importantly so would be photo ops. Nothing like your picture in the paper of running mag, for free advertising.

I hope road racing doesn't become like NASCAR with stickers everywhere. We are already seeing it in Pro Cycling.

Shouldn't you list as many as you can remember?

I would think so, but if you were lining up races for the future, should you pick smaller races or larger ones?
