I had a total ankle reconstuction Sept. '06, involving an allografted tendon, osteotomies, and 4 scews in my heal to staighten it out.
Last week I had surgery to remove the screws that were put in 9 months ago. I have an enormous soft cast on my foot and ankle (up to the knee) and have to keep this on for two weeks with the foot elevated most of the time. I also had, at the same time as the screw removal, a torn tendon repair (big toe) and several bone spurs removed.
Just wondering is anyone has had such a big dressing put on after hardware removal. My foot is feeling the best it has in months and now I am all wrapped up again, which is fine if necessary. Just trying to get some input.......

Hi there,

I have to tell you that I didn’t have anything similar done but my friends sister had broken her leg and she had some screws put in her leg too. Now I don’t know too much details but I know that she had some problems after the removal. Your leg will be weak in first several weeks and if I am not mistaking some pain will be noticeable. However she is doing now just fine without having any difficulties at all. So this is a positive experience so you should be alright after the process. I hope that this was helpful in any way.

All the best

Danella
