I had a tubal ligation in 2007. I am 48 yrs.old now and have missed my first menstrual period other than a pregnancy in 1986 and being given depo prevera injections for birth control ending in 2011. My last menstrual period started March 31 2016 and it is now May 9 2016 with no period (yet). I had taken a pregnancy test over the counter and was negative. My question is, is it possible for a sperm to fertilize an egg and reach an ovary to gestate normally without any complications if I was banded? Will it always turn out to be an ectopic pregnancy where the fetus has to be terminated and my health at risk?
Hi Curious,
Yes, even if your tubes were banded you could possibly get pregnant and it could be a normal pregnancy as well. Often, as you are aware, there is scar tissue that leads to an ectopic pregnancy.
When you are testing be sure to use your first morning urine for the best results.
Remember too, you can just be late. You may also be entering perimenopause, This occurs before menopause and irregular periods are common.
If you are more than about 10 day so late you may want to see your ob/gyn.
Good luck.
