I have had recurrent UTI's my whole life. Now I am having trouble getting pregnant and I am pretty sure that this is the cause, because everything else seems fine with me. I just started taking D-Mannose with CranActin. I take 2 pills daily, and every time I feel the pain I take 3 times 2 daily. I just started this 2 weeks ago and so far I am impressed. You might have to take a higher dosage in the beginning but once you have it under control it only takes 2 pills a day. For me it did work well (so far)! I had UTI's since I am 14 years old (now I am 29) and it came to the point that I did not even feel the UTI's anymore and thought that this slight pain when peeing was normal. I also want to point out that I think a healthy diet, especially low on sugar, seems to help and of course a lot of water. I also take GOOD Probiotics that help me with yeast infections (that I got after all the antibiotics). I think the Probiotics did WONDERS for me! And the D-Mannose are great so far as well! Google it, or look on amazon! There are great reviews for the product as well!
I have had recurring UTI's since I was 17 when I became sexually active. I am not saying to not use protection, (maybe just use pills or some other sort of birth control if you aren't trying to get pregnant) but my fiance and I stopped using condoms a year and a half ago, and I haven't had a single UTI. I was having them every few weeks for years, from the condoms. Just something to think about :)
Just my 2 cents, there is NO correlation between UTI's and infertility - that being just a UTI! IF the UTIS are from other ailments, then this is of course a possibility. I was erroneous told that I would have problems - when I used to hold it for hours on end and be hospitalized because of the pain. For YEARS I thought I wouldn't be able to have a baby, but there was ZERO problems in that! Also NEVER take a chance of having unprotected sex, condoms don't cause UTI's - it is from build up in urine and infections ensue! Actually the opposite is known to be true that IF you have sex without protection your rate of UTI's can increases - due to the germs from the penis! Jamie - your cure must have been from something else, as it wouldn't be the condoms! Also pills are only 99% effective, so that means they fail 1 time out of 100, wearing a condom WITH the pill erradicates any chance of pregnancy! Good luck to you both!
When I asked my doctor about it after I had had a few months UTI free I was told that condoms can irritate the urethra so that is what it was. I have only EVER been with one partner and he has only been with me. If you are with multiple partners than of course it is safer to use condoms. My partner and I have both been tested for STI's and we are both clean. So for someone who already knows that themselves and their partner are clean (and know they are faithful) it may be better to find an alternative method of birth control. My sister uses Depo and has never used a condom and has never once had a pregnancy scare. (She also only has one partner whom she knows is clean)
I understand what you meant Jamie. Just after answering approximately 1000 questions - usually about pregnancy scares and STD's I'm always hesitant to ever say to NOT use a condom. It's funny that for a woman unprotected sex can cause UTI's and your doctor saying that wearing a condom can too. Can't win can you?! ;-) As long as it is a monogamous relationship and you are on some other kind of birth control then fine. BUT if you aren't then definitely use coverage!

Try to stop wearing Tampons, Thong underwear or any underwear that aren't cotton, no caffeine, and don't take alot of baths. I had UTI's at least 3 to 4 times every month. I went and saw a Urologist and they did all sorts of test but couldn't find out what the problem was. They eventually put me on an antibiotic for 6 months straight. During the whole 6 months I only got one UTI the whole time, so they decided to take me off it to see if the bacteria cleared out of my bladder. I stayed off the antibiotic for a month or two, and then started getting them regularly again. The Urologists then stuck me back on the antibiotic for another year straight, which my body eventually wasn't working with the antibiotic anymore. The last resort was a laundry list of things I should not be doing. The underwear, tampons, and bath's were what I figured it out to be. I suffered for 4 years of getting those god forsaken infections 3 to 4 times every month, when the whole time it was something so simple I had to stop doing. Just thought I might help someone out. Also just to add, I have been with my boyfriend for seven years and we can't get pregnant. It's not like we're "trying" but it's also not like we're trying to prevent it either. I have never had a fertility test taken but it looks like I'm going to need one in the near future. It might be coincidence that I can't get pregnant or the chronic UTI's messed something up. Hope this helps someone:)
Hi, FranPam, I know you posted this a year ago, but I'm 14 and I've had bladder problems since I can remember.. Mine occur almost every day, for the past 14 years.. It is really bad in the morning.. Throughout the day I try to drink lots of water, but it still tends to hurt I'm beginning to believe I have what you do, with the whole Chronic thing.. It really scares me, but what if it does mess with your fertility,...?
Thank you for sharing your information. My daughter is 18 and has been getting these horrid UTI's about every two months. I will recommend this treatment to her and see if it works!!
Something to consider when you have reoccurring UTIs and are sexually active is that you and your partner need to wash before and you need to wash after every sexual encounter. This not only means genital but also hands. VERY IMPORTANT! It turns out my doctor said that we spread the germs that cause it by touch and most things we touch that others touch will have germs that can cause it. Also my doctor told me that tight underwear and any underwear that was not 100% cotton promotes them because of the heat allowing the germs to grow. She told me I needed to stop wearing underwear as often as I was having them.
I am 44 and have never successfully gotten pregnant. I miscarried once, one month along. I have had regular UTIs or their symptoms for 39 years. I am, at this point, down to one every two or three months. I have been off caffeine since I was 18 and "commando" for seven years. I found out not all of mine are actual infections as it turns out that I also have what my doctor called when I was 16 "convulsive bladder" meaning it goes into contraction like tensing and releasing. I was about to have the battery of tests from a whole urology team. But, when I got to the hospital they realized I was having a miscarriage. After having surgery to stop the hemorrhaging, I could not schedule the testing for a while and then I never went back to it. That was 20 years ago. I know I need to have it checked out as I used to work with seniors and I saw the kind of problems this kind of thing will cause when I am old.
