I have had chronic bronchitis and a sinus infection for 7 weeks. It does not respond to antibiotics and I have had 2 chest x-rays and 2 blood panels done. All normal. I have used cough syrup off and on and take flonase and albuterol (inhaler) daily. I have gotten marginally better and go to work every day and to the gym for an hour. When I bend over I often get a strong smell of ammonia. I am convinced that my upper respiratory and sinus problems are causing this smell but cannot find any medical evidence to back up my intuition. Since my problems are resistant to antibiotics, it seems unlikely that the infections are "splitting ammonia'. I am confident that everything will clear up but I am curious where the ammonia smell is coming from. I 'm sure its not kidneys or a lack of water. I sense it is somehow a product of the mucus. Ideas?
I have inhaled ammonia accidentally for a second, but got out of the ammonia smell quickly to fresh air. Am I safe? Ammonia inhaled is AMMONIA WATER STRONG type (dunno about the brand). Should I go to the ER?
