My sister is 24 and she was recently diagnosed with candidiasis. I would like to know more about it because I don’t want it to happen to me too. Is this something dangerous?

Candidiasis is a condition also known as a yeast infection or VVC. It is a common fungal infection that occurs with overgrowth of the fungus called Candida. Candida is always present in the body in small amounts but when an imbalance occurs, Candida can multiply. This is especially the case when the normal acidity of the vagina changes or when hormonal balance changes. When that happens, symptoms of candidiasis appear and most cases are caused by the person’s own Candida organisms. Symptoms develop only when Candida becomes overgrown in the sites like mouth, gastrointestinal tract, and vagina. In rare cases Candida can be passed from person to person, through sexual intercourse. Symptoms can be very uncomfortable and they can persist. The symptoms of genital candidiasis are similar to those of many other genital infections so it is very important to make a diagnosis and to get a proper treatment.
