There is a girl in my class that is HIV positive. I know that she is good girl, but everyone makes jokes about her because of that. No one even wants to seat next to her. What are the chances of contraction HIV if I spend some time with her?

People are often concerned that HIV can be contracted through common contacts with an HIV-infected person. Thing like shaking hands or sharing glasses or eating utensils are not risk factors for contracting HIV. There is no evidence that HIV can be spread through these means, and you should not be afraid to be around her or to have other common contacts. So, chances are small.
