I am also having the same problem, however, I only have to drink a glass of wine on an empty stomach and I get chest pains and I can hardly breath. I have to get a hot cup of tea or coffee and it releases. I had an EKG recently and the heart Dr says I am ok, but I still am concerned.

I realize this post is old, but for those who may discover it by a curious web search, I want to say this. The person who said that the remedy is to stop drinking has good intentions, but that can be very harmful, and even fatal. If you drink heavily, you can die if you just flat-out stop drinking (look into Delirius Tremens, which is fatal in over a third of untreated cases). Seeing a doctor is unilaterally recommended for chest pain, but if you stop drinking after a prolonged period you can put yourself in severe danger of death; see a doctor (get to the ER if you get withdrawal symptoms), and they can bring you down safely.

Alcohol is a huge trigger for people with anxiety and panic disorder. It is frustrating, because while actively on the 'drug', you will feel more relaxed--this is a reason a lot of people with anxiety disorders seek alcohol As soon as the alcohol has been processed, it will leave you in a state of heightened anxiety for a couple of days, and can trigger a panic attack. Panic attacks aren't the way the name suggests--they aren't a 'mental breakdown' or 'freaking out'--they can feel very physical, like a tightness in the chest and a strong sense that something is physically wrong with you. Alcohol also dehydrates you, and most people don't drink enough water to compensate. This is also a strong trigger of anxiety and panic attack.
I would recommend all of you to just take a couple of days alcohol free, drinking a TON of water during this time. If your symptoms are related to panic or anxiety, it may be alleviated.
