I am also on day 6 of this pain. It is still really bad and I totally understand how hungry you are because I am going through the same thing. The doctor gave me Nexium to take for one week but if the pain doesn't get better I will also need to get an endoscopy. I don't know why your doctor would give you a blank bottle. Seems shady. I don't understand why they prescribe this drug when such an awful and damaging side effect can occur. I will keep you posted if I get better or not.

I am having this same problem. I have been in pain for a week and cannot stand to eat any longer because of it. What did they do to make it better?

I am happy to report I feel 100% better. I was miserable until day 10 is when I finally felt some relief. It took about 2 weeks total to be completely better again. Take Tums or get a stronger acid reducer from your doctor. That's all you can really do until it goes away.  Keep from eating citrus, spicy foods, coffee & soda until the pain lessens. Only take Tylenol for the pain, no Motrin because that could make it worse. Hope you all feel better soon too!

And discontinue taking Doxycycline or your only causing more damage to your esophagus! Hope this helps.

OMG!
i'm having the same problem. Took a pill before bed on Saturday and woke up with chest pain. I thought the pill was stuck in my throat.
It burns when I drink coffee and still hurts even when i drink water.

Yes, same exact thing, but above/behind the left breast!
I stopped taking doxycycline about 4 days ago because of the side-effects. This chest pain being one of them.
My left arm also feels kinda funny sometimes like the pain is radiating down it.
Wish I knew what it was and how to stop it :(

I am feeling much like you all. I am on day 3, & the pain is slowly but surely worsening. I am going to the ER now , but I am very scared! /:

Same story here.  I was eating pizza and hot sauce, then took the Doxycycline a few hour later.  Pill felt stuck at the bottom of my throat.  I figured it was just my imagination.  The first day the pain was tolerable, second I could force myself to eat.  After that eating has been extremely painful.  Now on day five and about the only thing I can tolerate is vanilla ice cream.

Also I noticed the pain seems to move around in my chest.  It started at the base of my throat and seems to work its way down through my esophagus.

Looking forward to being able to eat normal food again.  :|

So glad I found these Posts. Been taking doxy about a year and two nights ago I took it with a little bit of water and went right to sleep. Woke up about 2 am and it felt like it was stuck in my throat or upper chest. Horrible feeling. I threw up mostly bile like stuff and the pain got worse and worse. then burping started. I cannot eat or drink because it feels like sharp knives going down the middle of my chest really slow. It hurts so so so bad!  So worried that I am just in the beginning of this since this is only day two for me and it sounds like all of you have had this for at least a week. Could you go to work?  Wish I had known about this.

I was prescribed Doxycycline. I was not told by the physicians assistant to my Dermatologist (I never saw my Dermatologist that day) who saw me of the severe side effects if I was to take this without plenty of water and not to lay down for 10 minutes after taking the pill. However, I also did not take the time to read my prescription before taking the antibiotic. After taking the pill regularly "at bedtime" just as I was prescribed to do, I took the pill on Sun 2/24 with little water and went straight to bed. I woke up the next morning feeling like it was lodged in my throat with no pain yet. It just felt like a lump in my throat. I wasn't extremely concerned because I thought it would just eventually make its way down. But over the next couple of days it still hadn't gone down. I was definitely concerned after that. I was due to see my General Practitioner on Thursday so even with a very small amount of pain, I decided to wait until I saw my doctor to seek help. My General Practitioner referred me to a Ear, Nose, and Throat doc. I made an appointment for Fri (the next day.) On Friday the pain became more extreme. The ENT doc put a camera down my throat and told me that he did not see any debris from the pill but he could only get the camera down to the base of my neck area in my esophagus. He prescribed me a steroid called Methylprednisolone which he said would take down the swelling because he believes the pill went down my throat sideways and scraped the sides of my esophagus. I asked the ENT doc if there was anything that we could do for the pain because it was really bad. He explained that the steroids would take down the swelling and diminish the pain. I asked what I should eat and he said to try and eat soft foods. He also told me that if the pain persisted after a week, I should call him and make an appointment because they will have to do an x-ray to see what he couldn't see with the camera. The pain has only gotten worse. I started the steroid regimen yesterday (Sat 3/2) and I think It may have helped the inflammation in my esophagus which helps me to swallow with less pain in my esophagus but but there is a whole other pain in my right chest area. With every swallow, it hurts so bad that I am buckled in tears. I am also starting to feel pain go into my right arm from the pain in my chest. I am only drinking water and just a little bit of coffee. I can only eat a little bit until I can't bear the pain anymore. I haven't sought after anymore medical help because I am hoping that waiting it out with medication will make it go away. I do plan to call the doctor after a week if it remains the same so I can get that x-ray. The reason I started reading this thread is to see if it was smart to wait. I wanted to know if the pain that I am feeling is extreme for this case or if this is normal. Everyone explains that they feel pain but are they feeling the pain in their right chest area, their arm, and are they literally in tears when trying to eat. The past few days I was having pain almost like heartburn even when I wasn't eating. Today, it only hurts during eating. I feel fine today when I don't eat and I feel very little pain when I drink water. But of course, that can change day to day. I just hope I am doing the right thing by waiting. I worry this may be something bigger and may get worse if I wait.

I have had the painful chest for 5 days now. It's so painful I can't eat and barely sleep. I went to the doctors and showed them this website and 3 others. Still they said I was just having a panic attack nothing more and just gave me antacids. I've been taking them but still no help. I just want to role over and die. Hurts to even take in oxygen. I was completely healthy before taking this pill. I also only took it once and this was the outcome.

Panic Attack? If you are having the same chest pain that I was having then that is FAR from a panic attack. By "this pill" are you referring to Doxycycline? I honestly thought I was in serious trouble with the pain that I was experiencing. I am the one who wrote the REALLY long entry above 2 weeks ago. I had even made a call to my doctor to tell him it wasn't working and I was really worried, then the very next day (day 4 of my 6 day steroid pack that I was prescribed) I felt relief. I was able to swallow with "less" pain and the day after that I was normal!! I could have cried solely due to feeling normal again!!!
