I started taking doxy for a tick borne disease first I startedhaving severheadacesthen this pain in my chest cant eat or sleep day 5 and still same thing
I feel WAY better knowing there are other people who have gone through this and said the pain goes away. I feel like I'm having a constant heart attack! Took the pill around 11pm on Thursday with one gulp of water. Went to bed about 10 mins later. Day 2 was bad with chest pains, felt like heartburn. It's now day 3 and my chest is on fire, constantly. It doesn't go away...at first I could eat soft things like milkshakes, now I can't even hardly drink water. I've lost sleep over this bc I wake up thinking I'm having a heart attack, like a tightness in my chest. It is getting harder to breathe and I haven't eaten in 2 days. Went to Urgent Care, they gave me a GI cocktail with Lidocaine and other random meds in it. They gave me a prescription for heartburn too. Took a prevacid before bed last night (about an hour before) and it was the first night I'd slept without waking up since Thursday. This pain scares me and has literally almost brought me to tears. Doc said if I had ulcers I'd be throwing up blood, so I guess I'm ok as far as that goes. Pain is behind my left breast (feels like my heart is tightening and burning). The heartburn meds does not help as much as I'd hope. Guess I'll just have to wait it out...
I went through the same thing too. Taking doxycycline was not good for me and I will never take again. I was read that you aren't suppose to lie down until after 1 hour of taking the pill; my instructions said 10 minutes...and no where did it states the side affects I was experiencing.
These were my symptoms for the past 4 days with yesterday being the worst: Difficulty swallowing, when I swallow, the feeling of food "sticking" in the middle of the chest or throat, stomach cramps, headache, feeling the need to burp but can’t. Yesterday, I bought some Prevacid (well Meijer brand because they were cheaper) and within a few hours, I felt about 50% better and the next day 100% better. I don't have any of the symptoms I had yesterday.
I am going through the same thing now, waiting for a call back from the doctor. I am so annoyed with myself that I didn't read the instructions properly. I took 1 tablet at 10:30 without water and then went straight to bed, woke up at midnight with a sharp pain at the base of my oesophagus with a feeling that something is stuck there. I am now sat up, drinking lots of water but I fear from reading these posts that the damage is done. I'm so tired but can't lay down to sleep due to the pain! Can't believe I may have this for days to come.
I am taking doxycycline, and 6 nights ago I woke up with intense chest pain. I even went to urgent care the next day to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack. It's been bad since then (pressure and pain in my chest, especially when I eat) and I just discoverd the link between doxycycline and heartburn (if you don't drink enough water when taking the doxycycline). The weird thing is that I told the doctor and nurse practitioner that I am taking doxycycline, and neither mentioned anything to me. The medical professional should be better informed about this.). Also, they recommended I take Prilosec (a PPI), but I've been reading online that this can cause a rebound effect. So I'm going to try to use Pepcid and mylanta to get through this. I am stopping the doxycycline. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences! It helped me figure out what was going on.
Well my Grandmother who has a big appetite was fighting a Urinary infection. Ps she has the exact same thing. Day 4 she vomited that was Nove 25th since then she has been eating very little , she wants to eat but is having difficulty, she has been drinking non stop. She points straight to her mid upper abd area and says "it hurts it hurts" The problem I am having is she is 104 years and a few weeks without proper food could be harmful. I have had her on 40mg prilosec daily. I don't know what else to do. Any advice for meds would be appreciated or how long it takes to heal?
I feel SO relieved after reading all these posts - I took doxycycline a few nights ago (my last one out of 7 days worth) but didn't heed the warning to take it a couple hours before bed. Took it with a small sip of water about 20 minutes before going to bed (8:40 PM), and woke up at 2 AM with the sensation of my esophagus feeling like it was going through a paper shredder. I can swallow with a moderate amount of pain (a couple days later), but it really feels like I've got some sort of big scab or ulcer where the medication burned my throat. I hope this gets better in a few days. My only concern is possible scarring. Thanks for all the info, folks.
Argh! I am in the same pain, it's totally taken over my days. I'm taking antibiotics, pills for heartburn and doxycycline. The question i have is - do i stop taking doxcycyline??? I got back from s.e.asia Tues and I'm meant to take them for a month after getting back. I really don't want to take them but i equally don't want to get malaria! But feel like they aren't helping me recover. Wish I'd known about the problems with doxcycycline - i mean i didn't read the leaflet inside, but why don't they warn you when they give it you? or put it in bold writing on the packet? Could have saved us all from a lot of pain and discomfort.
I am on day 10 of Doxy for Lyme disease. I have extreme chest pain, pain in stomach and dizziness. I went to ER last week as I thought I was having a heart attack. I am still feeling the same way, but hesitant to go to ER. I have 20 days more of the pills. I have definitely taken it with enough water and remained upright.
I don't know if it is from the Lyme or something else. Severe heart palitations.
Hello--Ive taken Doxycycline and the same buring heart attack pain came and went to the ER to days later-just couldn't take it anymore--well told the Dr in the ER my syptoms and the quikly put on full work up for all test for heat attack--I was worried and told the nurse my new medication Doxy---waited about 2 hrs and all test came back neg (no heat attack)---Diagnosis: Epigastric pain---yes I went to sleep too after I took the pill-- so I got a prescription for Omeprazole 20mg(you can get it at walmart too) and got some antacid Gaviscon also Pepcid ac for a few days---They need to reduce the acid in my somach and also If there are ulcers in my esophagus they will be able to heal--I didn't need a endoscopy because I explianed my symptoms real good---stay away from spicy foods, soda, eat bland foods for awhile--------For Home Care---and don,t have money for the ER (but go and don,t drive yourself nuts) you may try mylanta or maalox to help neutralize stomach acid--also Tagament (cimetidine), Zantac (ranitidine) or Carafate (sucralfate)---alow 1 hour before taking antacids too----so there is the cure for me and prob most in this forum can't put their mind at rest and take care of a scary problem that is so easy to cure--don't suffer for 2-5 weeks when you can just goto the Er or the store-- but I would goto the ER I you have means-----------Hope this helps and goodluck/godbless (I'm 43)
