That is not an allergy!! Those are common side effects of the medication!!!!!!!!
It still hurts after 2 years? That is terrifying! I was prescribed DOXY to help heal a bruise/blood blister in my cheek by my dermatologist. No one explained that any of this was possible, and the bottle simply says "Take with water". I took a pill when extremely tired before bed, I sipped water from the sink only, and laid right down. I woke up at 4 in the morning feeling like I was literally having a heart attack. I have never had heartburn in my life, so imagine the excruciating pain! I could not sleep. I took Tums and drank a ton of water, it only hurt more. I finally realized it had to be the DOXY. The second day of this madness, the burning was less, but it also felt as though I had swallowed a large spiked ball and it was stuck in my esophagus! The third day, the burning was even less, but I felt the spiked ball still stuck in my esophagus, and NOW it hurts to breathe in! If I take a slightly deep breath, it hurts so badly! It's like breathing when outside in Alaska when it is 0 degrees! Today is day 4. The symptoms are mostly the breathing pain and the spiked ball in chest, with little burning. I hate going to the doctor or the ER. I know they are going to charge me uber amounts of money and the thing is I just have to wait to heal. Still, it's scary enough that I feel I still might go in! I did order some Aloe Vera which is supposed to be a miracle cure, but of course it doesn't help with the pain. God bless all of us, who were never warned about any of this, and who are suffering without relief!!
I'm having the same problems took the meds on Sunday night with a sip of sprite laid down woke up 3 hours later and sat in front of the toilet feeling nauseous...3 days later it's chest tightness and extremely bad when I eat something it feels like my chest get extremely tight went to the urgent care they gave me maalox and told me to come back within a day if the Burning and pain doesn't stop I'm still having the bad chest pain after taking maalox. This scares me help please
I took doxycycline in the evening before going to bed, without water! Very silly, next day I was in agony. Haven't had heartburn that bad since I was pregnant, very painful ! It was better after a few days, but then I went and did the same again last night so I'm feeling really stupid now. I think best solution is to switch to mornings so thus can't happen again.
I had a doxycycline stuck in my throat for a couple of days, I almost went to the ER. I decided to try hot tea. I started burping and I think it desolved the pill. My throat feels a lot better! The hotter the better, I think it was stuck, that is why it hurted. The longer it was there, the more it hurt!
Hello, I realize that you posted this over a year ago and you probably will not read this, but I have also experienced dizziness and a fast heart beat. Looking back, can you remember how long your symptoms lasted? I'm on day 5 and this is terrible
Hi, how long did it takes for you to get rid all of this symptoms. A week after i stopped taking doxycycline, the pain has gone, but the discomfort of air accumulation in my stomach that keeps me bloated all the time, together with heartburn, dyspesia and the feeling of something was stucked in my throat and it seemed like the food i ate is going upwards into my neck. Im sufferring from this for almost a month already and its worrying me alot.
I'm going through this throat burning right now too. It sucks. I have Rocky MTN Spotted Fever and they told me I have no other choice but to take this med.:( I am so miserable.
I had the same thing and all the docs thought it was acid reflux. I even had a bravo capsule inserted in my esophagus. The pain was horrendous. I had it for, you may not want to hear this, for an entire year. I attributed it to doxy, docs said it was gastritis. They found nothing with the bravo and it just finally went away. It was a medical mystery to my docs. Glad that's over. Hope it heals soon. I lost a lot of weight bc I was scared to eat.
Me too! Same problems... Had an operation and the second pill at home before bed got stuck and I woke in the night to extreme pain in my throat and trying to throw up but couldn't due to surgery. Have had to stop solid food and move to protein drinks,Gaviston Combi and ice cream for my diet. Oh and lots of water. Hoping it gets better by next week!
I too took Doxy at around 11pm with a mouth full of water! Stayed up for another 30 mins approx (as it stated on the prescription Box not to lay down until at least 30 mins after consumption). Letting the drug do its work for a Chest Infection I've had for 5 weeks I thought all would be good until the morweeks for my next course of antibiotics. At 2am I woke from my sleep having severe deep throat & chest pain and ran to the toilet to be sick! salivating constantly for the next 3 hours and in complete discomfort and 3 more visits to the bathroom I contemplated not going to work as the burning, Stinging dagger sensation in my throat and chest had not shifted. I went to work but struggled to walk and get through my day feeling as if someone had kicked me in the stomach and winded Me. I'm glad I've read other comments, Doctor always asks"Are you allergic to any meds"? Not that I am but I will refuse to accept this drug again!

ThIs happened to me last night.I woke up at 2 with my chest on fire and pressure in my throat.The burning finally stopped but the throat feel like something is in there.it hurts when I swallow.I was on Doxy.I hope it improves not eating much.

Now I'm on day 5 I went to my doc who gave me medication for gastric and for rupture caused by DOXY. Now my question is will it have any effects in the future even though we feel Okay now and is there alternate medication for face acne?
