Hi there! I used to own a Chihuahua and I think if I remember correctly that they reach full sexual maturity at two years old but I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else will be able to answer that for you. What's his name?

Yeah, they'll do that. If you fill a water bottle up and spritz him, he'll stop doing that as much. Have you tried that?

I think that if a dog turns a year old and in heat, then it is the right time for them to mate. Just find a good breeder so that it's safe and the b***h can produce quality pups!

well guys heres the deal... most dogs start maturing around 1 year of age. younger dogs seem to mature faster that b****r dogs. it is never a good idea to bread a female on their first heat cycle it is better to wait at least one to two cycles before breeding. puppies will start humping things even at a few months old. just because they hump things doesnt mean they are ready to breed. the only deffinate way to see if your male is fertile is to collect a semen sample and check for active live spermatozoa (sperm cells) but after a year or so they should be fertile. also females are not ready to breed when the discharge is red bloody. they will refuse the male since they are still on proestrus. it is not until around 9 days later when they enter estrus and the discharge turns more amber to light yellow that she should allow the male to mount. there also is a better way to tell by examining the vaginal cells but this takes some experience.. the dogs normally know when they are ready.

usually most vets say wait for stud to be at least two years old. mature and will have faster better success when female goes into heat.
