Hello friends. I adopted puppy from the shelter three days ago. He is adorable, he is three months old and I don’t have idea what breed he is. I took him to the vet and he is clean from all fleas and parasites. I am planning to neuter him very soon, but I don’t know what is the best time to do this. Some of my friends told me that I should do this very soon but that I should be aware that this can affect my dog’s behavior. What do you think about it? What is the best time to neuter a puppy and can it affect its future behavior?

First, why would you do this? Why would you neuter your puppy? I think that there is no need to do this at all. But if you are planning to do it, you don’t need to rush. A lot of vets will recommend you to do this between 6 and 9 month of age. This is not based on any science. This is just a proved formula. The earliest age that you can do this is when your dog is 6 months old. Will it affect his future life and behavior depends from breed to breed, but it should not affect it.

This doesn’t refer to your question, but I need to tell you this. I was planning to neuter my puppy as well. But I didn’t do this. I think that this is not a solution and there is no need to do this.
About your other question about behavior, I don’t think that should affect it. My friend neutered all her dogs and they acted pretty much “normal” to me as they were getting older.
I want to advise you to think once again is it really necessary to do this.
Consult someone who knows more about neutering :)

Um I think that this is very controversial topic. Why? Because some studies have shown that with early neuters can be some problems in the future health and behavior.
I was reading that there is no need to spay a dog before 14 months old. But there is no prove for this and that is why I am not sure what to tell you.
I was talking with my vet about this and he told me that owners can do this when their dogs are up to 8 months old.
