My son is 5 years old and is having stomach pains under his ribs but above his belly button in the center of his tummy. A little history about him. He was diagnosed with a wilms tumor in the kidney in April 2011 and it was stage 2. Thankfully it was just in the kidney and had his right kidney removed and went through 18 chemo treatments. Sometime after treatments ended in sept 2011 he started to have these pains in his stomach to the point of throwing up and crying , screaming and balling up asking to take hime to the hospital. He is all to familiar with the hospital with all we had to do that I left out since my main concern at this point is what's causing this pain. We've had scans and upper GI , ultrasounds and multiple times, he has regular scans and ultrasounds just as any cancer survivor has to do. Nothing has ever been found to give any explanation of what is causing this pain. I feel helpless and want to know If anyone knows or heard of this pain? They say the chemo and cancer doesn't link to his belly pains. We started a prescription Pepcid med and omeprazole daily for preventative measures. He also takes dicyclomine if the cramping does happen. His pains were occurring on a weekly basis and lasting sometimes up to 12 hours to -just few hours. For a couple of months after starting these meds we have not seen the belly aches. But recently he has started having them again. They have told us its possibly IBS or just diet related. He doesn't eat as healthy as I wld like and is a very picky eater, after the chemo some foods are no longer desired I think because of bad aftermath from getting sick. I just want add that we do hot baths, try to go to the bathroom and sometimes give a laxitive given to us by the oncologist when these pains occur. Any suggestions or input wld be appreciated. We are scheduling a pediatric upper GI and dietician to further examine probable causes and advice. Thx in advance -concerned parent. He's gone through so much more than any child should have to endure.
The pains seem to come and go, it usually doesn't seem to be a steady pain, most times a few minutes apart. He gets pail and very uncomfortable tossing turning and just overall trying to get comfortable. It's frustrating. I just want my little boy to not have to have to go through this anymore. So I decided to turn to any form of info I can.
