I had sudden pain in my right lower leg in May. Was diagnosed with a blood clot (after an ultrasound) and put on Lasix, told to elevate my legs as much as possible. Have had no recent surgery of any kind. I am 75 and in good health. I don't exercise much but am not overweight. The swelling seems minor and is not readily visible. Support hose do not help.

Now four months later I still have pain when walking -- now in both legs. Should I continue tol elevate my legs in the evening? Should I exercise and walk around the block, or rest as much as I can? Walking makes the legs hurt more, and resting helps some, but nothing gives real relief. How long does it take to make a blood clot dissolve? My legs tire easily, and I have pain every day. How long will this continue? I am discouraged. My doctor just smiles and says it will get better eventually. No heart trouble that I know of. I used to be active and loved to hike.
