So after 4 years of Hydro addiction I decided to quit cold turkey.  After 3 days of withdrawal symptoms I have developed bad chest and sinus problems.  I have since read that going cold turkey is actually a bad idea and can lead to "flu-like symptoms" including chest and sinus conditions that last around a month or so.

My question is this:

If I start taking the Hydro again in smaller doses and try tapering off, will the chest and sinus stuff go away, or is it too late, meaning I should just go ahead and ride this out.
i suggest you to stop the cold turkey !

If you've already made it 3 days, the worst of the physical withdrawals will be over very soon.

Hydro withdrawals can be nasty, but like other opioids the withdrawals are not life threatning like alcohol and Benzos can be.

Tapering the dose has worked for many, but for me it just prolonged the inevitable. If there is anything good about Hydro it's the half life of the drug is only 4 hours. The good news is it will leave the body fairly quickly. The bad news is short half lifes also make withdrawals intense. The good news again is the physical symptoms are over quickly as well. Synthetics like Methadone and suboxone for example have a half life of 72 hours. Withdrawals from those can last for weeks and months in some cases. marijuana has a 72 hr half life also and why someone can fail a drug test 30 days after the last use.

In the end,if I ever have to detox again,I'd go the cold turkey route once more. Getting clean from hydro is the easy part. Staying clean is where the real difficulty lies. That's why a support group like NA is highly reccommended.
