I am a 23yr. old female. Over the last week or so I have been expiriencing several odd symptoms and I am not sure why. I have been feeling extremely lightheaded (and even off balance) I have a dull aching pain in my chest (not superficial, doesnt feel like a pulled muscle because it doesnt respond to deep breaths or any movement) I feel extremely tired dispite having tried to get a little extra rest this past weekend, I also have severe swelling in my lower legs, ankles and feet (left side is worse). Now before I continue let me give a little background and a little more explainaition for my concern. Two years ago I was diagnosed with chronic veinous insufficieny. I had several stents placed in my iliac veins and was prescribed compression stockings which I wear everyday and I take asprin daily. Several years ago I was diagnosed with an enlarged heart (when I was about 13 or 14) I was told it was no big deal that I had inherited this condition from my father who also has an enlarged heart. A few weeks ago I decided to make an appointment to see my doctor because of the fatigue. I want to have my thyroid tested (thyroid issues run in my family). But now I am wondering if I do in fact have a thyroid issue could that be the real reason for my enlarged heart. My concern right now is the lightheadedness, my inablilty to feel rested, my swollen legs despite wearing the compression stockings and this dull achy pain in my chest. Any ideas on what this could be??
Kyolmad,

Please check with your doctor ASAP. I'm not trying to upset you but your symptoms give me cause for concern.
The swelling in the legs and feet could be an indication of heart failure or a problem with the stents.

Are you having any trouble breathing?

Please keep us posted. Good luck.

At times. Its not constant. Sometimes I find myself needing to take deeper breaths even when I am at rest. And I become winded very easily even when walking slowly up the steps. At night when I lay down to go to bed I sometimes have a cough but its kind of dry.

thank you for responding!

I'm with Medic-Dan on this. Go see your doctor!!!!!

Most of us here are just people helping other people based on our own experience so we're not qualified to diagnose anything for you.

I'm simply OLD, so I have some experience in things that bother us in life. I also had bypass surgery 15 years ago tomorrow (the Ides of March) and everything you described fits with what I learned about heart related problems while I was in cardiac rehab.

You've been dealing with an enlarged heart so I suspect you already know what we are telling you.

Please get some proper medical attention ASAP.

I really appreciate the feedback I have made an appointment to see my doctor on wednesday. Although I have an enlarged heart none of my doctors ever said it was a problem, they have all just brushed it off as no big deal.

I guess I can understand that. I found I had a real hard time getting any information out my doctors after the surgery, in fact I could say I got just about none. All the good or helpful information I got came from the cardiac rehab nurses.

I have had some pain in my left shoulder and dizzy spells. Does this sound like a heart problem? I have an appointment to see the doctor tomorrow. Is that soon enough?
