I started getting an ache on my right side of my mouth like a tooth ache but not horribly bad just noticeable. It felt like the bottom tooth, then it started to feel like it could be the top tooth. Then a day or two later it felt it on the left side of my mouth. I have a couple days where my cheek kind of fluttered now and then on the right side. Along the same timeframe I was eating a piece of pepperoni pizza with some green olives on it and after I was thru all of a sudden I felt this twinge on both sides of my face like a sensation when you eat something sour .....it lasted about 5 minutes and started to subside. Then it happened the next week too. It has started to subside now so I don't feel it like that anymore. I looked it up and it pointed to the salivary glands in the face there under the ear but it didn't seem like a stone or an infection based on what I read. Then I started to get days where I get the chills-so cold but nothing makes it better-its like an infection feeling. I went to the DDS and he takes ex rays and finds I have a cavity on both sides of my mouth on the bottom and both underneath caps. I've gotten both of those taken care of and all the exrays of it did not show any signs of infection. He even sent me for a panoramic exray to see all the teeth.I deep down believed it was from the teeth no matter what the dds said but now all the work is done and I am still having problems so I guess he was right.
I am still getting those chills and now my face on the right side is a bit swollen. Has been for almost three weeks that I know of. I did go to my regular doc 2 weeks ago who felt inside my mouth and said it was swollen on that side a bit but said she didn't feel any kind of a stone or a growth. She thought I had a virus in the parotid glands. My blood work showed the blood count was good, the liver enzymes were slightly elevated and my vitamin d was low. The liver could be fatty liver since I'm overweight or it could be the Methotrexate I take for RA. Or it could be all the Tylenol and Advil I've been taking lately for the tooth problems. . Repeating that test in a month and she put me on vitamin D. She did a test called an amylase or something like that and it was negative. She still thinks it's a virus that has settled into these glands and has to work its way out. If it doesn't she mentioned getting a ct scan. So here it is a couple weeks later and I am still getting the chills, swelling on the right side. My DDS had me see and ENT and he put me on an antibiotic and told me after a week to have a CT scan. His diagnosis was sialoadentis. When I read up on it the symptoms dont really match mine. I just have the swelling and the chills. I dont have dry mouth or eyes, no real pain or any drainage, no foul taste in my mouth.
I'm really worrying about what else it could be and why these chills. Several yrs ago I had the chills like this only a little worse and no one could find out why. I had them for months. Dr finally had me do a ct or ultrasound of the abdomen and we found my gallbladder was bad. no other symptoms that would lead anyone to think it was the gallbladder. After we took it out the chills subsided. So I know these chills are something and I just worried about what it could be- I keep thinking tumor but I'm leaning toward an infection of some kind. I've also had a couple of occasions where my ear on that side would almost go out like and then ring for a minute and go back to normal. And a couple yrs ago I started to get BPPV on that same side ---sometimes I wake up and my ear on that side is wet inside.
I feel like its all connected. I hope I'm not babbling, I'm just so frustrated. I feel like I am doing all the right things and still cant get to the bottom of things a month later. Do any of you get the chills along with the swelling? Some days I have them all day then other days the chills are gone and I feel fine. These chills feel like an infection-no fever tho- just chilled from the inside is how I describe it. The swelling is always there tho. It doesnt hurt.
Any advice, or help is certainly appreciated.

We have a very very similar issue. Mine started about a year ago, after a meal my right parotid gland swoll up looking like I had a half a softball plastered on my right jaw. That took a week to go away, cold/hot compress, gum, sour candy, lemon, etc. somewhat helped the swelling go away. It's has happened maybe 8-10 more times after that. It's been over 1 year now and it has gotten worst. It sometimes go away after 24 hours, sometime after over 1 week. It also now spread to my sublingual and submandibular glands and parotid ducts, when it happend the last time it happened last weekend. I've had MRI, it was negative for any stones or anything. I have not been tested for Sjorgen's, I don't think that's what I have. Could this be an allergic reaction? If it is, Sialadenitis, then what is the treatment. My Dr. could not help me, I've asked my dentist, nothing too. Please help...

I never noticed swelling but I did get the sensations like they were doing something - kind of tingling. My doc noticed that the right side was swollen by feeling inside my mouth. I can tell now too that my right cheek feels bigger than the left. She thought it was a parotid gland infection. So did my ENT. He thought maybe bacterial and gave me an antibiotic which didn't change anything. She thought viral and said it had to get better on its own. They both showed sialadenitis/parotitis on their diagnosis. As the time progressed I noticed getting some sort of weird sensations in the neck glands too. Like if I had an infection. Then I started getting twinges in the boney area at the back of my head on the same side. Then I had certain days 1 or 2 a week where the glands would all tingle or something all day and by evening I'd get these chills. Never a fever. Just like I'm getting an infection, cold from within, not on the outside. I had a CT scan of the neck which I guess includes all the facial glands and everything. It showed both of the parotids were slightly enlarged. It didn't show any tumors or stones. This is good but nothing has changed. if anything its gotten worse. Since it started with just the parotids tingling and now its neck and back of head glands too. I had the blood work for Sjogerns which was negative as I thought. I went back to my regular doc and she said my C Reactive Protein level was high which means there is inflammation in the body. I assumed it was high because I have RA,. She said it could be but since the RA is currently under control it shouldn't be that high. She put me on Augmentin an antibiotic that she said will reduce inflammation. I only started it Tuesday night so I haven't seen any difference yet. I haven noticed though since I started the antibiotic that I am getting these weird chills on the right side of my head. It kind of goes from the top of my head on the right down to my ear. A real strange sensation. Ive had it about 10 times today alone. Not sure of its just another symptom or if its the antibiotics working!! LOL! I've been dealing with this since early February and its getting me a bit worried now.I have gone to the DDS as well and he doesn't see anything in the teeth that could be causing this.
So are you only getting the swelling? No other symptoms?

I used to have this issue so much and never new what the problem was. Finally went to the Dr and she did blood work and diagnosed me with Sjorens disease. Then went on to tell me there was no cure. Well I would not settle for that. So I did my research and changed my diet. Today about 1 year later, i rarley suffer from the sharp pains and swollen glands. What I've done is cut our GLUTEN from my diet. I really worked. Some times I my slip up, and when I do, that is when i find that my glad will occasionally swell and give me that sharp pain when im abt to eat. So Go GLUTEN FREE. that is the Cure. Promise! :0)
Great Luck!

I just get up and jumped out of my bed very scared, touching on the right side of my face and thinking maybe I need to see a new ENT... About a year ago while I was showered I noticed that on the right side of my face on the back of the jaw where the bone area ended, under that bone area I had a big lump, but I din't had any pain. I went to see an ENT Doctor and he prescribed antibiotic and told me to comeback in one month. When I came back to see him the lump has gone, and he told me that I should be OK... But in above six months later it came back right same place and I noticed that I feel like something drainage into my mouth and taste like sour. I came back to see the ENT and he send me to have a Catscam with contrast and told me that I need surgery because he thought there was stones in the salivary gland or maybe a tumor. But, the CT with contrast came back negative for stones and tumor... Then, my ENT told me just to wait and it should get better and go away in his own. It never happened, The big lump sometime get really small but when I eat it enlarged/swollen it get very hard like a rock in a round shape just like a sofball more or less. I did went to see another ENT for a second opinion, and he prescribed to me the pills "predniSONE" for ten days, but it did not worked for me. When I returned to see him, he told me that I have a salivary gland blockage and that maybe there is one small stone blocking the salivary gland even thou that the CT was negative. He also told me to wait, that it should gone out in his own and to come back to see him six months. Today the lump still there with all the symptoms described above and there has been four months goes by since the second ENT told to comeback in six months to see him. What I should do?
In my own research in the Internet it kind mach "SIALOADENITIS". Please help me with any answer. 8/1/13
Natalie.

How this helpful? A lot of common and curable ailments can be related to HIV, but aren't. If you are going to comment please try to be helpful. Your comment is ignorant at best.

I don't know if this will help, but stop using your toothpaste and mouthwash and try another healthier brand. My 13 yr. old granddaughter has had nothing but trouble after using crest toothpaste and mouthwash. She has had swollen glands, stringy, spit, nausea, sores in her mouth. She has been from dr. to dr, and had every test available. They find nothing, but I am convinced it is the crest products. Everything started the same time she started to use the products, since quitting, her sores have cleared up, she is no longer nauseated, she has no much junk come out of her mouth, she still has swollen glands, but they are going down. Please check out adverse effects from crest toothpaste and mouthwash, on goggle. you will be surprised at the amount of people that are having trouble. a couple of forums are consumer affairs and topix.........I wish you well.

Hi, just want to know if you found a cure? I have exactly the same symptoms. Itching on face about 2cm infront of ear lobe. It then becomes very warm and I am under the impression that the glands become swollen because of pressing and moving my fingers up and down because of itching.
I'm really sick and tired of my chipmunk look. Doctors did allergy tests but all is negative.
