Thank the lord for this site. I smoke weed in twenties and began whilze mom was dyingzz. Concerned what weed would do to my transplant which is nothing to my labs, I started smoking weed again in 2012 . I just got my card and never knew certain types of weed can help with certain things like sleep, appetite, etc. So for sleep, for instance , indica type and not sativa is suggested. But besides keeping my weed use down to 3 hits a night, I have also, due to weed, cut my antidepressant use down to 2 pills per week, use it for dental pain-f*ck that toxic vicodint/ ibuprofen/ pain killer sh#t. I dont drink at all. Lost 14 pounds-dont need to eat late anymore, do very good b4 bed body care and
lightened up to a lot of lifes losses. So I weigh the benefits and maryjane is for me. Btw I now get major hard ons when high by just thinking
bout my penis so thats another pill I dont need
plus. A med marijuana user, peace to all, mark

As a renal transplant recipient, a recently graduated doctor of medicine and a habitual pot smoker I would say that your friend would not at all be harmed by smoking along with you a few times.
It can affect the metabolism of the anti-rejection drugs, which in the long term can hurt his transplanted kidney. He is not going to drop dead or suddenly lose his kidney because your smoke. However, if he is going to smoke reguarly, it will decrease the life-expectancy of his transplanted kidney.

I had a kidney transplant when I was 6 years of age. I'm 17 now. I asked my doctor if I could smoke weed, she said no. She suggested medible for me. Edible cannabis. I think he'll be ok if he eats it rather than smoke it.

I just received my kidney transplant on December 17th 2014. I'm a month in my kidney and being that my birthday is January 23rd I decided to turn up. I smoked one joint and drank give cups of Hennessey and i was fine. So i think it all depends on how your body reacts to marijuana. If your friend had never tried it before, don't let him start now.

Way to completely ignore all the rules and precautions your transplant team told you in order to get "turned up". Like yourself, I was in my early twenties, 22 to be exact, when I had my first transplant (double lung), and then 25 for my second lung transplant. Yes, it is difficult to watch most of your peers around you drinking, and it is such a common social interaction, it's easy to feel left out. But you need to grow up and put those thoughts behind you. Sure, go to the bars and clubs with friends and be social, but drink soda or water instead. Continuing your behavior will alter your medications, and result in the rejection of the transplant, and then death. Is drinking worth your life? Follow your team's rules, they have them for reasons.

I had a kidney transplant and I vape it. No problems and my nephrologist doesn't disapprove. When you can only take Tylenol for pain, it really helps

Oh it's worth it but it's different with individual to another. I had a liver transplant 10 years ago. I smoke everyday. My labs come out consistently normal and with good numbers. I was afraid it would hinder me but so far I don't have to take a lot of meds anymore and I'm down to only 2mgs of prograf every day

I had a kidney transplant almost two years ago and have smoked weed and drank alcohol occasionally since. My latest labs showed the kidney numbers to be stable but my liver function to be very mildly abnormal. I won't be drinking or smoking anything anymore. If I can get edibles, I would definitely try them but they're hard to come by here in Texas. I've been smoking weed for about 15 years and have never noticed any medical benefit from it. It makes my headaches worse and my paranoia and anxiety much much worse. I understand pills are way more dangerous but it's better not to put your life at risk just to get a little high and drunk.

I have had a heart and liver transplant in 2010 and took my anti rejection pills for 2 years with numerous complications until I had enough and searched for an alternative and I found that it could actually help with rejection prevention in 2013 and I'm happy to say since then I have not had and more complications and have off my meds for 2 years and still going strong.

I had a kidney-pancreas transplant 10 months ago... My nurse said that (real) marijuana has the same effect as pomegranate, starfruit & grapefruit (which they advise against consuming) because it makes the racing of your prograph levels inaccurate.- it doesn't actually effect the rejection, but just the trading of them, so they can't adjust the doses accurately. I have smoked, but about a week or 2 before I get my bloodwork done I stop so that the levels are accurate. This seems to work for me... And as a sidenote, marinol (synthetic thc) doesn't have the same effect- they prescribe that with no concerns to me.
