Guys, I just had a kidney transplant, and I personally spoke to the transplant docs about this (since I was using medical marijuana while I was on dialysis). The doctor said that it would not interact with the drugs, but he claimed that there have been a few reported cases (I think he said it was 2) where people who *smoked* marijuana that contained certain mold spores caused them to get very sick, and ultimately die.

These mold spores appear on the marijuana if it is improperly cultivated, and it is a very rare occurrence. Then, the doctor surprised me and said "just eat it!" it's not going to mess with the drugs, and it's guaranteed not to have any mold spores if it's been cooked into edibles. So just eat it, said the nephrologist.

So, that information comes from a *very* prominent hospital. I don't plan on giving up smoking, but I think I will wait quite a while until I attempt to smoke again. Everything has been going well with my transplant, and I just tried an edible for the first time post transplant, and it was great! I'm happy to stick with edibles for the near future.

I'm 21 years old, had a kidney transplant 11 years ago and thank God everything is working great but I've been smoking medical weed for the past 3 years every week arround 3-4 times and all my monthly blood tests are always fine but I'm confused about stopping if it's not harming my kidney or my body I do believe in doctors and their suggestions but I find it weird it seems like my body is handling it in the right way. Need suggestions please thanks.

My nephrologist told me if you're gonna use weed it's best to eat it. Vamping oil is good too!

My nephrologist just gave me the go ahead on THC oil. I would not smoke cannabis or anything for that matter being immune suppressed kidney transplant December 8, 2016, because of aspergillus. So I am taking the oil as an edible 50% thc 50% Cbd. A chocolate bar gives me 12 doses and I use it mainly for pain from the immunesuppressents

Stop smoking weed for now they frown on it and can kick you off the list for smoking it . keep your own council on all problem,s there picking who,s going to die as well as live. = financial to fear of surgery no whining no confiding and just because your Insurance company will pay for it doesn't mean one will come down the shoot in time. your meld score will have to get high before they give you a transplant which means you are going to get so ill you wont even know how ill you are when your liver slows down you can get a form of Encephalopathy because the ammonia in your blood will rise affecting your brain you will be like a semi awake drowsy guy. you may end up on kidney dialysis because of your liver condition also before transplant jog every day you may be under the knife 8 hour,s you need endurance not weed seriously stop talking your mentally not prepared it,s common to see the counselors and the psychiatrist a few more times as well WATCH NEED IT OR NOT this is big money changing hands here .

The reason why the medical and drug system say that marijuana will cause complications because they know that canabinoids heal ailments naturally without any side effects and this is a loss of profit to them.

Research on cannabis oil.

BS......not proven that cannabis effects anti-rejection drugs. The only thing doctors worried about this fungus that could develop on the cannabis.

I'm 16 months post transplant. I've been smoking everyday since my surgey. My test results are all coming up pretty consistent. My nephrologist has nothing against it. Just be careful of fungus.

Just vacationed with a friend of 35 years who is 10 months post kidney transplant and was appalled that she drinks a lot of beer and pops edible cannabis like candy and thus remained either stoned, had anxiety attacks, had short term memory loss, was non-communicable, and couldn't walk more than 100 yards for the whole week. She also forgot to bring with her a blood pressure med and an immunosuppressant drug but didn't forget her 3 baggies of edibles. She ignored my concern and did not respond. The only thing different now is that she doesn't have dialysis three times a week. Her health is poor. What a waste of a kidney! She says her doctors know about the marijuana. I doubt if they know how much she eats. Why would she risk the gift of life she has been given. We are no long friends. Her reckless use of alcohol and cannabis killed it. I'm sure if she would give them up, she would find herself healthier.

If you love something you are losing part of your life by giving it up. Some people chose to live how they want other than live for whats best for them .

I had a kidney transplant in 2013. Just started the on medical marijuana program here in Jersey. So far I've been fine, but it elevated my Prograf level from 6 to 10.
Last night I ingest too much weed and totally baked. I'm wondering if one time could damage your kidney by pushing your antirejection meds to toxic levels. By the way, I vape and use edibles. Thanks.
