I have had bad split, cracked, flaking skin on my fingers and feet. It started out on my fingers, but not on everyone. It then moved to my big toe.

Treatment that seems to work Athletes Foot Cream. Don't take my word for it, just give it a try for about a week, with plastic gloves.

My feet have almost gone, my hands the same.

Do you want to stop the cracking and bleeding of your hands! I had this problem years. I tried everything anyone told me about. I ask my doctor he prescribed several different creams none of them worked. These creams ran over a $160 apiece I migth as well spit on them as much good as they did. A friend on mine told me the real secret of how to cure this problem it's cheap and it works. Walmart sells Udderly Smoot cream $1.78 per tube or the bigger contianer for $4.96 I also added Benadryl for children one drop of each three times a day until the bleeding stopped. It took me about two weeks after that I just use the utterly smooth twice a day still to this day. I haven't had any sore acking, skin breakage or bleeding for two years now. I decided let you all know what worked for me then you can  see if this will work for all of you as well.

I'm reading all the comments on this subject and what jumps out at me is that possibly it is an inside problem......could it be a lack of a certain vitamin like E etc. I've also heard that the white of a raw egg on burns immediately after a accident puts a protective skin over the burn and low and behold no blister. I've tried this and it worked just as stated. My niece burned the palm of her hand really badly.
It healed so quickly we were totally surprised. I simply separated an egg, took a fork and sort of beat up the white only and poured it over the palm of her hand and then when it was dry I put a loose cotton patch and a bandage over it. It worked great. So maybe getting yourself tested for vitamin deficiency and then trying the egg procedure - who knows. I would put the egg white and then put on a pair of cotton white gloves and go to bed. I'm no doctor nor nurse, but sometimes common sense is a great teacher. Good luck from a Grandma in Bermuda
PS: the reason I'm looking at this site is because my cousin asked me what she could do for her issues and so I thought I'd see what others are saying with the same problems. So this info I will pass on to her and see if it helps her. Good luck.

Ok I have had this for about 8 months! Thumbs fingers not all of them but it travels from one to another I have it on my elbows, big toes, pinkie toes and heels.

My husband got this under his fingernail and someone told us to soak it in Listerine Original and so we did it two times and the nail was replaced in time with a new nail that pushed the affected nail away. This is a fungus. I at the time didn't think it was related but I do now. So last night I wrapped all the affected fingers and one toe with 3M Medipore (sticky band aid in white) and soaked my fingers and toe in the Listerine yes it is wet but drys quick and smells like Listerine! I want my hands, elbows, heels and toes back! So I am going to keep trying.  In one day it already looks better. Keeping my fingers crossed that this is the answer!

Sometimes I wonder if doctors know anything!!!!! Hope this helps!                                                                                                Renny

I have been suffering from the same problem. My thumbs and index fingers are cracked open, they bleed, they burn, they are peeling. I can't stand for hot water to touch them and they throb like a toothache. I have been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and was put on methotrexate. Everything has cleared up except my fingers. So now I am thinking it is something different. It truly sucks!!

I have a similar problem. There is a cycle of intense itching, skin becomes dry and then gets deep splits. The itching and flaking skin are unbearable. Have seen a dermatologist and have been prescribed an ointment. Helped at first but doesn't seem to now. Interesting thing though. Every now and then I have had to have a cortizone shot in a hip joint or knee. Every time without exception, within a week my hands clear up and I have a few weeks of relief just like magic. Only to have the whole thing start all over again. Would it be possible to get a cortisone shot muscularly every months?

The problem with that hypothesis is that antibiotics don't fight viruses, they only act on bacteria.

I'm going through the same thing, as I read this. Yes, it hurts to type. I initially thought it was an issue with temperature, because of this weather, but it doesn't matter how hot or cold I keepit, anymore. They too crack and bleed around the knuckles, mainly the right hand. I have been working at this Pizza Hut for a couple weeks, now, using different soap, and reaching into sanitation buckets, dealing with greasy food, but every night, I use neolsporn, but it just gets worse each day. Today it's unbearable. Couldn't sleep last night. Thank god, I'm off on Subdays. I don't currently have insurance, myself, and I just don't know what to do. I'm moving into management, threre, so it's not like I can just leave the job, or not get my hands dirty. I want my hands back.

Hi Janet, I two have the same problem. It is caused by dermatitis. I use hand creams, the thicker the better during the day and a steroid ointment prescribed by my doctor at night when it gets real bad. I also use cotton bandages and put finger-less mittens over them when my hands are at the bleeding point. I wear these as much as I can for two or three days and nights straight so they have a chance to heal before I take the mittens off completely. Nothing makes it go away for good however I have found drinking at least 5 glasses of water a day helps. Trust me you are not alone or diseased. Nobody can catch it.

Have same condition sporadically. Have found that certain foods trigger it. As long as I steer away from those triggers, my hands are fine. When it does happen, I have found that zinc oxide heals it more quickly than anything else. I put a bit on the spot and cover with a bandaid. The spot is usually healed by the next day.
