I developed this when I was in my mid-20's. Apparently, mine is a genetic condition that is rarely properly diagnosed by doctors. Knuckles will crack and bleed. The skin near the webbing takes on an entireley new texture (like a lizard), which will also crack and bleed. This happens only in cold temperatures. Hydrocortisone barely helps. Triamcinalone Acetonide Cream or Ointment works wonders, but requires a prescription. The only cure is radiation, but this is typically never used as radiation could cause problems of its own. Moving to a warmer climate would also provide benefits.

I have dry skin on the top of my hands around the knuckles - its from the cold and painful red lines where the skin's gone raw. I have ben using the Made from Earth Aloe Jojoba Lotion for two weeks (once a day, before I went to sleep) has completely healed my skin. It's smooth to the touch and not the rough red mess it used to be.

I have the same thing. Mine went away for 6 months during the winter/spring. As soon as humidity started up during the summer, the cracks and peeling skin started again. Nothing really changed with my diet. I've had this affliction for over 5 years. I've tried almost everything including giving up certain foods/alcohol, etc. At this point, it feels hopeless.

Hey guys, I have a friend who was suffering with really painful cracked hands. She tried so many products and then someone suggested Medi Hand products. She started seeing results in the first 2 weeks and no longer experiencing this problem. I would highly recommend this to anyone who suffers from the same problem.

Thank you. I was searching for something with a thyroid/cracked skin connection, which I suspect for myself. I would love to hear what you mean by 'Got it fixed'. I want that too!

I discovered this on my own - I thought well, you'd pour hydrogen peroxide over an open cut - and that essentially what cracks in fingertips are. Only one of my hand's was bad so I poured HP over it and watched it bubble and turn white in the bubbling. Just as a reference check, I poured HP over my fingertips on my other hand that was fine - and there was NO white bubbling. Shows that one was infected and one wasn't. Well after that, I put a little Burt's Bee's lotion on and FINALLY, a solution that lasts more than seconds. It's been days and my fingertips have felt normal ever since. I did another HP treatment just to maintain - and none of the white foam came up. So it really seems to be HEALING a seeming infection. I only just googled my remedy to see if anyone else had the same idea and saw your entry so AGREED! it is the only thing that has lasted and worked.

I have the same problem. Had sore, cracked, and shin pealed fingers for about a year. I went to a camp for a church and done the dishes. Used dawn and strong degreaser to clean the pots and pans. The cleaners made my hands worse. I'm 66 years ole and have been a care provider and can for the elderly for almost all my life. Never have I had this. They heal, but return again. What can I do to get this to go away? I don't have a computer, but I used the library's once or twice a week.

Yes please share. I experience this every winter. Dry, deeply cracked hands that bleed and it is so painful (hot burning sensation). I know this is from an imbalance inside but I don't have the money to get tests done so I would love to know what imbalance was causing it for you. It would give me a good starting point diet and supplement wise.

Dear Beard277,
I know that this post is old, I have just found it.
I have the same problem, my hands are covered with cracks, they are swollen, my left hand looks like covered with "red, purple glove" from the fingers down over my knuckle, my right hand covered only until the middle, even my palms are affected. It hurts, and burns, very hard to bend my fingers, nothing helps, it's been more than 10 years, doctors are just wondering.... Have you found the solution for your problem? Please, tell me yes... What helped you maybe can help me.
Thank you,
Domi

Most of these problems are the result of hypothyroidism. No one ever thinks that the thyroid could possibly have anything to do with it, but the thyroid has so much control over the organs of the body, and with the skin being the #1 organ, the thyroid controls it all. I have been dealing with this for almost a year now, and someone finally said, "Get a TSH test for your thryoid". The numbers were extremely high. Since beginning medication, the symptoms are subsiding, but I still have to wear nitrile gloves a lot.

It started a little over 2 years ago for me. I moved to a new city and almost over night, my hands started to form what looked like callouses but being that I'm a musician, I know exactly where and why they form. This was different. Then the skin started to dry and crack until it was bleeding. I started covering my hands with Neosporin and wearing gloves. Did little to nothing. Went to see 3 different derms whom all said it was hand ecszema and I should try to have less stress and use lotion. I have never heard of or had any allergies in my whole life and suddenly my hands and just always burning, itching, catching and bleeding all over my palms and fingers. I cannot stop working yet I can hardly play my instrument anymore without massive pain and bleeding all over it! What is going on? This cannot just be dry skin, it's almost as if something is attacking my hands. I have gone theough bouts and bouts of creams. I have changed every soap, shampoo and detergent to chemical free organic formulas. I have even gone to wearing gloves for everything I touch. This is maddening!!! Someone please tell me what is going on!!!!!

I too had bleeding splits in my fingers for 10+ years and tried every cream and prescription I could get without success. I read a doctor column in the newspaper that her doctor recommended Japanese Sencha Green Tea for her arthritis, which didn't help it but did eliminated 90% of her bleeding splitting hand problem. I immediately ordered it from Amazon and started drinking a cup in the morning and one in the afternoon. Within 3 months my problem was solved and now 2-3 years I use nothing. Good luck!

Ever find out what the problem with your hands was. It sounds like I have exactly the same thing and on the same fingers.

I take 3 flaxseed oil and vitamin k. Got rid of the knuckle caps . Use Avon intensive care hand cream. Skin on one finger still cracks when doing work where the I have to grip something, such as the lawn mower handle.
