UGH! I hate these things. I've had cysts under my left arm since I was about 14 (I'm 19 now). I've never gone to the doctor (No insurance...) for it, but I can usually take care of it at home. Sometimes when it gets really swollen, I'll take a really hot shower and run the water over the cyst. That usually brakes down the tissue in the cyst, making it easier to remove. You can also use heating pads to help drain it. At this point, I have a pretty large hole under my arm from removing these cysts so many times, and of course a large scar. It's so gross and embarrassing that I can't stand lifting my arms in public without sleeves to cover it. Once the hole was so large that I could literally stick the end of my pinky in it. When it is like this, I take the opportunity to pull some of the solid cyst out. It can be incredibly disgusting, as the cysts often contain what looks like fatty tissue, blood, pus, and sometimes ingrown hair. It really is absolutely sick. I've removed whole cysts on my own without a doctor, and I hear that the antibiotics only work in a few cases. Also, I find that my cysts don't swell up nearly as often or painfully if I use an organic deodorant. Don't know if it's related or if it's just coincidence, but it might be worth investigating.

Panicking is the last thing you should do.
A cyst is very uncomfortable...but there are methods to eliminating them that do not call for surgery.
My wife had one just one that formed and became red, swollen, and painful. About the size of a pencil eraser.
It became apparent just in a couple of days.
Her remedy...
No under arms deodorants...or lotions
light but thorough skin scrubbing...
followed with a visual examination to make certain that it was not an ingrown hair. At least a superficial exam.
Next...she applied, using a cotton ball, witch hazel to the affected area. Morning and evening for 4 days straight.
The whole ordeal lasted 4 days. The cyst pain lasted 2 days...and shrinking took 2 days. She is clear of it now.
I am a believer because I too had a cyst shortly afterwards.
She performed the same remedy on my two cysts and it cleared them up in a full 4 days.
Give it a try.

Two days ago I had another cyst or what my mom calls a huge pimple in my arm pit. I looked at it and saw that it had a head so I squeeze it out. I have been doing that for years. I'm actually glad mine are not so bad that I would have to go to the doctor. The only cyst I had to have removed was after a spider bit my ankle and where the bite was, it caused an ingrown hair. I have a nice scar now and you can still feel the hole.

Hi,
I just had surgery today to remove 2 lumps under my left armpit and one under my right. I was under under general anesthetic and when i woke up i was in severe pain. i was given pain killers but that did not help much. This was my second operation , my previous one was to remove a cyst on my leg.
i have had desolvable stiches put in and will have the dressing removed tomorrow. im expectnig there to be deep scars.
its better to have the surgery done rather than live with an infection in your body so i would recommend everyone to seek professional help and have an operation.

I keep getting cysts under my left armpit. Hurts like heck, but I will say this. It is so much better than one on your tailbone if you get my drift.
They had to cut all the way to my tailbone to get it out, and healing from the inside out is trecherous. Its been 2 weeks now, and it still hurts to sit down sometimes, and packing each day is a pain in itself. Laying down is worse, I have back issues, and laying on my side does not help one bit.
I just got another cyst under my left armpit, and it hurts to drain them, but I just keep squeezing until I finally get them to pop / burst.
The one on my tailbone, I popped myself, but it refuse to finish draining and after 4 solid months of that, it finally got infected, and I was forced to go to the dr who referred me for surgery. I suggest to anyone else that gets one there, DO NOT hesitate, get it lanced instead of waiting.

JUST got back from the doctors. I originally went there for my annual physical, but got her to check it out afterwards. She felt it and i told her my condition and how it felt (tender, painful, sore etc.) I discovered it around four days ago after sleeping at a friends house. Then, it was the size of a raisin, but surprisingly in the short amount of time, its the size of a quarter! TRICK IS: do NOT touch it. This will only cause it to become more irritated, and will swell even MORE. Anyway, the doctor told me to shower more often the usual to really clean this cyst. If it does not heal within 7 days, I will have to get it drained....YIKES. whatever you do, DO NOT POP IT.

So here is my mysterious lupm under the arm story. Mine appeared on a Tuesday and I just thought it was an ingrown hair from shaving. Then it got worse, growing in size and more painfunl than any ingrown hair I had ever had in my life. I showed it to my grandmother, my mother, a few others and talked to different people. All offered an explaination to what it might be and the over all consensus was an infected ingrown hair or a cyst, and most of them suggested putting a hot towel--as hot as you can stand--soaked in salt water under my arm to draw it to a head. Ok, I did that and it came to a head. I showed it to my mother who then tried to attack me with a needle to "pop" it but I wouldn't let her. Later it just started to come out, oozing clear and yellow stuff and blood. So I would press on it, pushing stuff out for a while, trying not to over do it then soaking it some more with hot, salty rags--I even slept with one under my arm. Eventually something head like finally came out of it SLOWLY. It was kind of green almost and a lot thicker than the other stuff which was coming out too but still I just pushed for a while then soaked it some more. Im still in this process so sorry i do not have an ending but it feels a lot better though still very swore, there is a big hole and I do have what seems to be a much smaller one right above it. Everyone also said I would be more prone to getting them now that I have had one--this is my first--and that there will probably be a scar. I didn't take antibiotics and I feel like it has something to do with what I drink because I moved in with my grandmother who buys cokes and now I drink cokes which I didn't really do before.

A cyst is the name for a bacterial infection. Staph is a specific form of bacteria that is resistant to antibiotics. Doctors treat a cyst with antibiotics first because it is less invasive. If that does not work, the cyst has to be drained by lancing it or sometimes more complex surgery involving a small amount of tissue removal. Swollen lymph nodes are the deeper, no red, lumps that people feel. As part of the immune system, the respond to any infection. They basically clean infected material from the body. If you have a swollen lymph node, it is probably a result of infection, which can be a virus, such as the cold, a bacterial infection, such as a cyst, small infection due to surgery, or sometimes even cancer. One the cause of the problem is gone, which is the infection, it still takes weeks for the lymph nodes to go back to normal size for they are still cleaning a backlog of infected material. Trust the doctor

I am a 41 yr old female, and I was 15 the first time I ever had one of these armpit cysts. It got tremendously huge & was very, very painful. It hurt just for my arm to lay along my side (like it does normally). We didn't have any insurance, so I think my mother finally got the doctor to see me without any money, cause I was hurting so bad, I could no longer function normally. I was also crying all the time cause it hurt so bad. The doctor said it was from my antiperspirant and he lanced it. IT WAS THE MOST PAINFUL THING I had ever experienced up to that time!! I don't think he gave me any kind of local anesthesia, and I know he didn't give me anything else for pain. They had to hold me down while I screamed bloody murder, and when it lanced, pus shot across the room. My mother later told me the people there were a little shocked. I'm sure there was probably a lot of blood too. Especially since, although I didn't have another one again for many years, the past few years I have begun to get them again. I have not had another one that serious, but they are very painful, hard, immobile, red, very uncomfortable, and not very likely to come to a head so I can even try to drain it myself. I'm so tired of them. I've had a lot of health issues the past 3 yrs, and I'm starting to get pretty scared, cause I still don't have health insurance & I'm seeing a doctor that helps me with prescriptions, but I can't afford for him to have to do any other kind of testing or minor surgical procedures. I've got one now (which is why I'm here), and I can't hardly bring myself to touch it. I just don't even want to deal with it, cause it's so tender & painful, but I know I'm going to have to. I have a routine doctor appt next week & I'm trying to hold out till then, cause he actually didn't have any appointments available before then, and I hate it I have to wait!! I CANNOT afford to go to an emergency room. :-(

ok.. here we go.. i want to help all you ladies! the condition is called Hidradenitis Suppurativa. i have had problems with it for years.. the dr i used to see would put me on antibiotics and it would never help.. i am lucky enough that my husband is a tattoo artist so i always had sterile needles and alcohol in the house to lance them myself because my dr wouldnt and that was the only thing that helped relieve them. after a few months it would go away till another would come back.. normally about three a year and always in the same three spots. i finally went to see a new dr and he told me that the reason the antibiotics dont work is because its not an infection, its a type of cyst and it is a medical condition that many have but few get help for. the best bet to keep it from returning in a spot is to have the cyst surgically removed along with the gland it forms in or on. normally this is very simple and takes only about half an hour with just numbing the area and a few stitches after. dont even have to be put under. once the whole part is removed it will not return in that spot but can come back in other areas. although quite painful at times they are no real threat to your health. i recently had my first one removed, it was quick and painless and the stitches will be removed a week after it was done, and i will also get the biopsy test back. my dr told me from the look of it though that he expects everything to come back just fine. not all of these require surgery though and here is a link to a website that can give you more information on this condition. read it all for treatments and ways to prevent them from coming back.
