I keep getting these large lumps under my armpits on both sides, they are very painful and they won't go away. As soon as one goes away a new one appears, I am so scared, is this a form of cancer?  I know this is not normal and im freaking out. I used to get them all the time and then they went away for about a year but now they are back worse than ever.  They eventually pop and go away but Always come back. What is wrong with me !?

It is like this; I have suffered with boils/cysts for years. Mine comes from family history on my mother's side. Which is my grandma who used to get them as well I believe under her armpit like me. She also is the one who had the breast cancer and had to have one removed. I know for a fact that my diet is partly to blame because when I start eating more fruits and vegetables and cut down on sweets they subside. But if I change my diet (things I eat daily) they will come back. So excessive sweets and also red meat brings them on for me. Also lamb which I love and goat meat make them form. My system is telling me that it is not good for my body. Just like an allergy. It is good to know your family history and your body. By the way they can be really painful and I've had my share of sticks with needles and cuts (lancing). It has been crazy for me too. I was told by a specialist that if I had surgury for the sweat glands there would be a big scar. So of course I opted out and like I said from time to time they flare up. I usually soak in hot water (as hot as I can stand it for about 15-30 minutes daily until it opens up and the infection comes out. I have also went to my primary care physician and when needed was given antibiotics and the swelling does go down. But the antibiotics don't have anything to do with them coming back.

I am dealing with left armpit problem for the first time now. I am using towels as warm as I CAN STAND them, holdimg them under armpit while they are still warm, this help give relief to the pain. I also apply Beta-Dine(from Wal-mart) with a cotton ball 3 or 4 times a day. before each application clean area. Can also use Neoporin ointment (from walmart) between the use of the Beta-Dine. This causes it to come to a head and start draining. If you start applying these when you first feeling them start coming on you, you can make them go away before they swell up on you. This my first time to have one on my armpit it snulled up on me because I didn't know the sign of it. I have had them on my tailbone before and before I found out about the treatment I mention here the doctor had to blanch it.

A cyst is NOT a bacterial infection. A cyst can be caused by a bacterial infect but they are not mutually exclusive. Here is a link to a reliable medical reference website for exact causes of and types if cysts http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/mobileart.asp?articlekey=55603
Good luck!

I am constantly suffering with this issue. When it first happened I was scared. Doctor in A&E drained it. Now I wait for it to bust and clean it thoroughly, whilst squeezing out any remains. They tend to come up when I am stressed or just before my periods. I am not worried about it anymore and just live with the fact that they will come and go. I do not take antibiotics either. I have realised it is very much like a spot, but on a macro level. You burst a spot puss comes out spot goes down.

Hi all I just had a cyst removed surgically from my right armpit today. I've had the cyst for almost a year. Met with my PCP over the summer last year, suggested warm wet compresses, didn't work, maybe made it a tiny bit smaller. It never swelled or had any drainage, just felt like a tiny moveable lump under my skin. Went back after a couple weeks of the compresses not working, we tried antibiotics, also didn't work. So we decided to have it removed surgically. I met with surgeon and he said it should be removed and not drained, because by draining you do not remove all the tissue and there's a high chance of the cyst returning, usually worse than before. The procedure took about 20 minutes and the area was just numbed with lidocaine. I have 6 stitches which will be removed next week and I can shower and everything tomorrow with no limitations. I have no pain right now. So I'd say it was a very easy procedure and you should call your doc ASAP to remove it.
