hi,

im 22 and i get cysts all the time! just before my period begins the cysts in both my armpits enlarge, become tender and commonly are infected. so they have a little red patch on top. this is gross but sometimes they burst, which to be honest is quite a relief as the gunk : which is an aggragation of pus + immune complexes + little bood - is drained away and the cyst disappears. im very use to them now ive had them since i was 13.

few tips from someone who has them every month for the past 9 years:

good hygiene under arms and where you have them...warm water rather then very hot clensing is better. - this is to prevent infection.

dont worry, most are benign and drain away naturally.

always to the doctors if worried or in doubt

and some of us are naturaly conditioned to get them!

IN 2007 I noticed a lump in my armpit. I went to the DR and he told me it was just my lymph node adn they put me on antibiotics and told me it would go away on its on.....well i ended up getting pregnant and a few months into my pregnancy the swelling and pain got worse! I had it drained and it went away for a short while and then returned. I had it untill about 5 months ago when another lump apeared so i went to the Dr. He removed the small one but not the big one. Now i am pregnant again and it is painful and HUGE! im very upset bc the Dr said i would have no more trouble with my lyhmph nodes.....and I have a HUGE scar from surgery that apparently did no good. Im very worried that i am going to have to have it drained again..and being pregnant there is not much they can do for pain! Anyone else had one removed and still have trouble?

I really feel for all you people who have really suffered with these lymphatic cysts, i have never had one, but my mum has and she drains the fluid out herself by squeezing it like a large spot. but i am actually studying a-level human anatomy and physiology and what i understand is that the lymphatic system is a complex network of thin vessels, capillaries, valves, ducts, nodes and organs that all run throughout the body alongside the blood vessels etc. The main function of lymph is to protect against infections, so it is not always advised to have any nodes removed if at all possible and if you have lymphatic cysts removed they usually grow back, im not too sure why though. People suffer with cysts usually when they have in infection as the lymph has the job of fighting the bacteria hence when your ill you have swollen glands in your neck and sometimes some forms of cancer may also course glands to swell so if you have swollen glands for at least 1 week then it is strongly recommended to go and see your doctor.

I hope this has helped many off you who were wondering about the lymph.

Howdy guys and girls.  I've been getting small pea-marble sized lumps under my armpits for about 6 months.  Sometimes under both armpits at once and sometimes more than one under an armpit.  They seem to be deep under the skin when they are forming and are painful and restricting when moving the arm in certain ways - almost as if they are attached or impeding the tendons/muscles which move your arm.  They are also painful to touch in the first week. The skin over them is gerenally a little red as if irritated, but the lump never rises to the top of the skin to form a "head" and thus no puss is ever secreted. The lump does eventually rise closer to the skin and becomes more round (over a week) but again, no head forms.  After the lump has risen, you can actually grab it bewteen your thumb and index finger and move it around freely.  The pain pretty much ceases once the lump has fully formed and risen so that you can touch it / grab it etc.  I went to a Dr to have it checked one time and he said (upon grabing it and moving it around freely from the lymph nodes and muscles etc) that it was a cyst because it wasnt attached to anything. He didnt prescribe me any anti-biotics and said that people get them and no-one knows why and that it should go away like the others i had.  Once the pain has ceased, I generally start massaging them and this reduces their size until they are all but gone.  My wife is a pharmacist and I have started messing around with different deoderants etc.  Trouble is, I sweat quite a lot and think this may have something to do with it. My wife has given me some pretty serious anti-persperants to combat the heavy sweating but this may be adding to the problem with the cysts. The Dr did tell me that you can surgically remove them but they come up in both arms in different areas as far as I can tell so not sure whether this would fix the problem. In any event, the Dr said it wasn't necessary. I reckon I may try de-toxing for a bit as I probably consume too much coffee, beer and rubbish food generally. Having said that, I only weigh 72kgs and am 5'10 tall. But my insides may not reflect my healthy outside look!

Hi, I have a cyst under my armpit as well. I also went to see the doctor about it and they prescribed me antibiotics to take for a week. The cyst went down but every now and again it reappears and swells up for days. It is really painful the antibiotics don't work now and my doctor says they can't remove it because the cyst is too small. What can I do about it when my doctor won't help?!?

Hi everyone

I have had several of these cysts and currently have one that is going down. After numerous visits to the doctors and many long courses of anti-biotics I have now discovered a way of dealing with these things. A couple of years ago, whilst suffering from an extremely big and painful cyst that just refused to clear up, I scoured the internet and found a few people mentioned taking Turmeric capsules. Eager for anything that might help I quickly purchased some and found within a couple of weeks the cyst had come to a head and literally emptied itself while I was at work one day!! Pretty disgusting and I was left with a large hole but once all the pus was out the pain was greatly reduced and it slowly healed. I stayed on the capsules for a while but did find they gave me a bit of heartburn so once I was sure it had gone I stopped them.

I was sure that the Turmeric had helped but wasn't sure that the cyst was just ready to clear up. However I have since had several new cysts come up about three times since this and I start taking the Turmeric straight away and they have usually cleared within a week. My current one very quickly became huge within two days but has gone right down since I started taking the capsules and should be gone within another week.

These capsules truly are amazing for clearing up cysts - they apparently have anti-inflammatory effects, as well as a host of other benefits. I would most definitely recommend anyone with cysts to give them a try.

i have been living with this since 2003 its called  http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hidradenitis-suppurativa/DS00818 surgery will not cure most cases it will just come back in another spot eat alot of tumeric its a spice found in mustard it will help to make them smaller quicker in a mild case.... there has never been a antibiotic that has helped me with this disease the main causes are hormonal change stress and rapid weight gain i got my first cyst right after my first child was born ( rapid weight gain hormonal change and of course lots of new stress) i went into remmision for a year with no cyst under my arms but i started a new job and they are back again and every bit as painful as before also this disease causes you to have a weak immune system because your body is trying to fight of infection constantly so you catch colds and bugs more easily than most people i hope this was able to help

I feel everybodys pain. I too get these huge cysts that are extremely painful and restrict arm movement. I got my first one about 8 years ago and have been getting them on and off since under both arms. As i speak i have only 10 minutes ago had the biggest one ever burst and it was the biggest pain relief ever! For the last 4/5 days i have been walking around telling everyone i had strained my arm lifting something heavy as i was so embarassed. Im so glad i found this site and learned that im not the only one. I have sometimes been close to tears thinking 'why me'.

I am leaning towards the Anti Perspirant theory at the moment. Only a couple of weeks ago i changed to another brand which keeps you really dry and really does stop you sweating. I am 99% sure that this is what triggered this latest huge cyst. Heres why, when the puss came out it really was disgusting smelling and had a searing stale old sweat smell sort of like onions but 100 times stronger. I know its disgusting but thats the only way i could describe it. I think the sweat has been building up inside my arm pit due to these anti perspirant products and this is what has caused the cyst to form. I am going to try and go without deodrant when possible and then only use perspirant products when i have to use some form of deodrant.

I will let everybody know how i get on in a few weeks. For now though i am just so relieved that i can move my arm normally again for the first time in days and i can sleep tonight without having to put up with the knawing pain.

I got a cyst when I was sick with pneumonia. One day I just lifted up my armpit and it actually popped itself. It was disgusting and messy but I'm glad it just sort of cleared up on its own.
