My wife has had excessive tears for 5 months. This is the second time in 3 years. She had plugs put in for a year and that helped until they caused some irratation and infection. After treatment of this, she had a stint placed in one tear duct and has now had it removed. However, she is still having problems and the duct has closed back up and her tearing problems seem worse in that eye. Under her eyes are swollen, itchy and red. Her doctors have told her their only other option is surgery to create a wider duct, but they are really at a lost as to why she is continuing to have this problem. They are suggesting an allergic reaction to something that could be causing it, but at this point they don't seem to have any answers. Can you suggest any altenatives at this point?

Note: She is highly allergic to any cortizone products for her skin or eyes.
