I just want to say, that I find it funny, that most of you guys are on Yaz...
I was on a diffirant pill 4 many years & never experienced anything like this..
I just finished my first month of Yaz & this situation is now so horrible, that I'm looking for advice on the internet...
(I haven't had sex, so I know I'm not pregnant!)
It's obviously The Pill that's causing it!!!!
Well, I'm definitly changing back to my trusty-previous pill.
Don't stress girls.... We are all in the same gross boat!
Time to ditch it...

I'm having the same problem with Yaz and I'm having stomach cramps too. It looks like old blood but old from when? It doesn't make sense. I had an Iud before this and I've only been on yaz for 3 weeks. At first I thought the discharge was from having my IUD removed but it hasn't gone away. It seems worse after sex and it is gross. I'm going to call my doctor and I'll post what I find out. My husband says I'm moody but I told him to shut the $&@; up and mind is own business, lol. The whole reason I'm on Yaz is for my psycho pms! I'm going to stick with it and give it a chance , assuming I find out this discharge is normal.
I am having the same problem with a very similar situation to many of you. I was on YAZ for 7 months last year, but had to stop taking it because I could not afford it. I had the brown discharge then, too, but it was nothing like it is now. I asked my gyno doctor for seasonique because I did not like having my period every month, and she told me that it is ok to skip the white pills with YAZ too and just take the white pills once for every three packs of pills. Still, the brown-ish red discharge was not a huge problem, it went away after the first couple months of taking the pill. I just started taking YAZ again and skipped the white pills for the first month, just like i used to, and i am half way into my second pack. About a week ago I started having a pinkish discharge and was very worried so I called my doctor and they said it was probably because I had taken the pills late for 3 consecutive days and it should go away, but if it got worse or did not go away to call back. I called back today, and am still waiting on a call back because the discharge turned thicker and a really dark red/brown color. It is disgusting, it makes me uncomfortable and it makes me feel dirty, and it's interrupting intimacy with my boyfriend. I also have a little cramping with the discharge, but i'm not supposed to be on my period and this looks NOTHING like a period. I am getting very worried, but when I get a call back I will let you all know what the nurse says. I just find it very interesting that almost all of us who are having this problem are taking YAZ.
I've been on YAZ for almost a year now i think, and brown discharge and cramping happens pretty regularly. I havent decided whether its from sex, or just my body cleaning itself out. Once i skipped 4 pills in a row and had to start a new pack and the discharge happened for almost a whole month. Im assuming its normal, or maybe it is just YAZ that does it. I am very glad to know im not the only one this happens to.
"I hope that it is normal. I have only been taking Birth Control for about a month and the changes to my body and mood are questionable. I am still wondering if the brown discharge is normal and safe for me to be going through. It seems I have been on my period for almost a month straight.. due to the discharge. I started the pill during the last few days of my period and about a week later the discharge began to appear and has been since. I just want to make sure that I am not dying or anything. I also am wondering how long it will continue. It's kind of put a damper on my self-esteem and I would really like to have sex sometime soon. It's gross when you have all this brown mud-like s**t coming out of you though. Embarassed I appreciate being able to find out that this is supposed to happen, but I do have my doubts. "
This is exactly what is happening to me! I know this postee wrote this 2 years ago but they are my thoughts exactly! Did she find out if everything was normal in the end? Ive basically gone on the pill because I want to have good sex with my boyfriend and now a month after taking it, and a month of not seeing him and a few days until i DO,,,i cant believe Ive got this brown discharge...so sucky...

WOW so I am 33 and got my tubes tied 2 years ago (dont recommend it to anyone) since than I have had really heavy and painful cycles PILL about 3 months ago and for the last month I have had this dark brown nasty thick gross discharge hummmm sound familiar anyone????? I was starting to think i was dying or had a std (husband would b a dead man) glad I found this site cuz I see i am not alone now here is my question what the ____ can we do about it or is getting off the pill the only answer cuz this is just not right!!! 8-|
I get the brown discharge thing all of the time. I am on the regular monthly birth control pill but I skip the placebo pills for two months at a time and then take them the third month to allow for a period. There is nothing wrong with doing this. It's the same as taking seasonale or any other 3 month pill. Pretty much every period I get will start out very gross and brown but it will then change to the normal red. The brown slimy-ness is just the "old" menstruation that has built up over the time you have not allowed your body to have its monthly period. Again, there is nothing wrong with it. I recently missed two pills and I wound up getting the brown discharge even after I resumed taking the pill normally. This was a few days before I got my regular period anyway so it wasn't a big deal.
I don't really understand why so many people are concerned about it. Unless I miss a pill or two, I don't get any discharge until I take the placebo pills and allow a period to occur. When it does come, as I said, it starts out brown but then changes to the normal red. It doesn't interrupt my sex life in any way. It's nothing to be ashamed of and it's completely normal. I could really care less about it and I am happy that in this day and age we women are not forced to have a period each and every month. So everyone just needs to relax and if you don't want this to interrupt your sex life than just don't miss any pills. Simple as that. If you can't remember to take it everyday than there are other forms of birth control that you can use that won't require you to remember to take a pill everyday and you don't have to get your period every month either, if you so choose.

I was getting the birth control shot and I wasnt able to afford it any longer. So, that means I havent gotten it in like a month and i have and I havent been having any sex, but ever since I started getting the shot, I got one period after that then a brown discharge and I sometimes get cramps. What does that mean?
never douche....it's more harmful to your body....it might be uncomfortable but call or go to your doctor...
Don't worry, it's not pregnancy, I'm not sexually active and I'm on the pill purely for regulating my period. I got the brown discharge too, and its not possible for me to be preggers so it can't be that. I'm going to the doctors in a few days, so if you would like I'll tell you what he says, so you don't have to worry?

I am on Depo Provera, the shot one gets every 3months, I just got mine on July (I've been using it for about a year now) and I've been having unprotected sex with my boyfriend ever since. Today I go to the bathroom and I see brown discharge, it really scares me because I know it may mean early pregnancy, which I hope is not the case because I am on birth control afterall. Any opinions on what might be wrong? Thanks everyone!
I've been on BC and missed a pill last month. Sure hubby and I had unprotected during the missed pill. This month about 1.5 week ago we had unprotect sex and next day for 2 days i had darkish spoting. Just enough when you wipe and to have a liner. Now I am at the end of my active pack, taking the nonactive and no period yet. it's been 3 days past due. taken test and nothing. I hate getting hopes up, but I am not in the mood to take blood test just to have period start next day. LOL...that has happened before, like 2 month before I started taking BC. Any ideals?
the exact same thing has been happening to me, though i am not on yaz. I'm on a different medication and when it is my "off week" the brown reddish sludge appears in place of my period. This started happening when i became sexually active with the pill. I'd been terribly worried through all of it, though it is reassuring to hear i am not the only one. But the thing that differs in my case is some mild cramps a few days before my off week. Does this mean my period is wishing to occur the week before its been "scheduled to?" and that the menstrual brownish reddish "blood" is old blood from the misoccured period? A thought maybe? :$ it's scary none the less, and therefore i would appreciate a true answer instead of the bonding page this has become, for i am relieved, but not entirely without worry.
Hey folks! I've been having this problem ever since I started this Lybrel bc.. It is AMAZING, besides the fact that about 2-3 weeks out of every month, I have this icky thick clumpy dark brown discharge. My boyfriend and I are sexually active, and we use condoms sometimes, and unprotected sex other times, (I know, shame on us) but when this dark brown stuff is happening it makes sex VERY PAINFUL! My boyfriend is totally grossed out by the brown discharge, and says it can't be normal. I always kept telling him it probably was, but since it's been going on since July 2010, and here it is October 2010-- I'm starting to question my own reassurances! I'm glad that I got on here to make sure I wasn't just losing my flippin mind, and that something was terribly wrong! So, what i think I might do since my bc allows me to take a low dose pill the whole thirty days and not have to skip any for periods (Im not supposed to have a period) I think I'm going to stop taking my birth control for a week, allow for a period, and then jump back on the bandwagon after a week and see if the gross discharge goes away. If not, then idk!!:'(
