Dear Naomi
It's not just because of rubbing but it can make it worse. Try prevent it from rubbing. I am 27 years old and I have this problem too. I just take care of it like I do for my face. I use masks for it, just I try to prevent it .

No., I don't think so.
I use honey, lemon and etc. when I am in bath, I use them.
Don't wear short when you are at home. Don't shave. just try to prevent it. don't worry, most of people have the same problem.

Hydroquinone is a carcenogenic so I would never recommend using that, it is actually banned in Europe. Also avoid products containing bearberry and arbutin, as these naturally create hyrdroquinone when released in the body. If you do a little research you will find a host of information. Here is a little I have found

"Hydroquinone has been shown to cause blood cancers such as leukaemia and kidney damage in animal studies. When applied to the skin it is absorbed into the blood stream and excreted via the kidneys but at a slower rate. This tells us that hydroquinone accumulates in the body. It is broken down in the bone marrow to p-benzoquinone and this is where long term damage may originate."

Hi, I have the same problem also I have brown marks inbetween my legs, on my neck, under my arms, and basically anywhere there is creases on my body. I'm quite a heavy lady. Is there any cure, or is simple healthy eating and exercise the main cure??

hello, the darkness between the thighs, mine anyway, is due to too much heat in that area. mine is provoked by itchiness and over sweatiness due to not having regular bowel movements. and not having regular bowel movements also provokes unnecessary weight gain.

i also have skin that scars easily so scrubbing excessively as suggested by some of the replies promoting everyday exfoliation actually worsens the problem. because the skin becomes irritated and scars, i.e. gets darker and darker between the thighs. weight loss and wearing cotton underway helps especially as it enables the skin between the thighs to not sweat too much. it would be good for you to see a dermatologist.

however please bear in mind, for light skin that has a tendency to show dark scars even from a simple scratch on the arm, vigorous scrubbing/over exfoliation is not the solution.  and it's a common misconception that skin unbathed looks dark brown or darker than the surrounding skin areas. it has nothing to do with hygiene and everything to do natural color or shades of the different parts of the body, and a diet high in sugars, and an overly sweaty and itchy area between the tighs...all which in my case, i noticed i get when i take foods high in sugar or calories, or onion/garlic rich meals.
