I am on day 11, and I won't lie... The recovery was pretty bad. I am posting this for people who have just had a tonsillectomy and are starting to become hopeless, I know I was! Around day 4 til about day 7 I was extremely depressed from the pain. It hurts like a b*tch. But the main thing is to make sure you keep swallowing no matter how much it hurts because it will hurt 10x worse if your throat becomes dry! I breezed through day 1 easily but the pain increased each day until like day 7 then I started to feel it healing. That week felt like the longest week of my entire life. Day 5 til like day 9 I had a problem with excessive saliva, and it was extremely hard for me to sleep because it would be so much spit that I would choke on it almost like I was drowning, I had to spit it a cup every half a minute. On day 9 I decided to try to chew some gum, wish I would have considered the advice earlier because it definitely help, and the spit went away as long as I kept the gum in my mouth. Iced water became my best friend, I also drank Gatorade and sprite and ginger ale but nothing soothed my throat more than really cold water. I know it sounds weird but hot soup soothed my throat too, not warm but a little hot! Like chicken broth, or really warm mashed potatoes... I noticed when my scabs began dissolving that particular things burned my throat but everyone is different so you just have to see what works for you. I had a little ear pain too but it was nothing compared to what others say they went through, I just used ice pack and that helped the little ear pain I did have. I had really bad breath from severe tonsil stones and I looked forward to this tonsillectomy because I knew it would change my life forever. I can already notice my breath is better, and I can finally have more confidence! If I could do the surgery all over again I would again and again because it was worth it! Very painful but worth it!
