Thank you doc,
Well am still confused.. Its been more than 3 weeks i had sex and had taken the ipill. and have taken home pregnancy test again . its the third time now, yet it showed negative(3 weeks later the intercourse). My periods haven't started . Should i go consult a Gynecologist or is it safe to wait for a little longer as its the 10th day today.

Thank you for your time.

3 weeks after intercourse, if you are using your first morning urine to test, it is unlikely you are pregnant. It really is a common side effect. There is nothing your doctor can do except run another pregnancy test. Give it a little more time.

Hi doc.. I m very confused .. I had sex with my gf on 4 feb.. We had a protected sex But i think condom was torn .. So for safety she took an ipill within one hour of intercourse.. She had normal bleeding on 11 feb .... It was heavy on first day n normal on 12.. It stopped on 13 and again started on 14 and lasted for few hours... Then to confirm we did a pregnancy test on 15 It came negative .. Till now she hadnt got her periods.. We did a home pregnancy test on 12 march and it also came negative.. But i am very afraid of the matter Is she pregnant?? Was bleeding that occured on 11 feb was her periods??? Is there any chance of pregnancy .. Pls reply Pls pls Very confused n afraid .. Pls doctor reply ASAP!!

Hi Ani,

Yes there was a chance of pregnancy. There ALWAYS is with any sexual contact. The Ipill is NOT as effective as a properly used condom or daily birth control pill.

But, I DO NOT think she is pregnant.

Common side effects include an early or late period. This can last for MONTHS. Side effects vary in all women.

The negative test on 12 March is likely accurate. The test she did on 15 February was too early - you need to wait AT LEAST two weeks from when you had sex to test. Another thing, the pregnancy tests are only really accurate when they say "pregnant." False negatives are VERY common.

Hope it helps.

Will there be a problem sir?? And what about her periods for this month? How late can it be??

She can miss her period entirely.

Unfortunately there is no way to know when she'll get her next period - it varies. It's just a side effect of the pill.

Hi Anjali,

The pull out method is NOT reliable as a form of birth control. Emergency contraceptives (IPill, Plan B, etc) are not as reliable as regular birth control.
Your period CAN be late. It is a common side effect.
Hope it helps.

should i take a pregnncy test nw?? will it b accurate?

You can miss your period entirely.

You can test as early as two weeks after having sex. You MUST use your first morning urine, your wake up pee, to test for the best accuracy.

False negatives are common testing early.

Good luck.
