Hello. I am pretty scared right now and lack of informations certainly doesn’t help. So, I would like to find out more about my present condition.
I'm 22 years old whole my life I had painful menstruation periods but this was too much. About three weeks I started to suffer from pain in my left ovary but this time pain wasn’t connected with my period. It occurred about ten days after my menstruation.
So, I have contacted my gynecologist and after one ultrasound exam he told me that I have some dermoid cyst on my left ovary.
He said that we should wait and supervise the actions of this cyst and that surgery may be needed.
How serious this could become!?
It is very hard for me to believe that you don’t know anything about dermoid cyst because it is quite common condition.
I can say that this is one form of benign tumor and it develops from a totipotential germ cell that is retained within the ovary.
Dermoid cysts may occur at any age and in most cases it is about three centimeters long but it could be sometimes even up to 45 cm in diameter.
In most cases these cysts disappear by them self with no treatment but if they grow enough they could leave ovary without blood supply which could be very dangerous. So these dermoid cysts can be removed with either conventional surgery or laparoscopy.
I have a dermoid cyst aswell.
I feel pretty scared myself.
Not long ago I had another ultrasound and it indicated that is is mobile & there is no assessment of flow detected.
Is this a good thing? What does it mean?
My next door neighbour said it is a good thing. Doctors can't guarantee that it is benign as they have to examine it after it is taken out. That is what they tell me. But I think at this stage things look good. I have about 14 weeks until i give birth do you think all will be good for the rest of the pregnancy?
Please help.

I am 21 years old and also have a dermoid cyst on my left ovary. I got 3 ultrasounds done and 1 MRI and I am scheduled for surgery to get it removed on Mar. 30 and they may also need to remove my left ovary. Does anyone know how long the recovery process afterwards is and does it affect sex life afterwards?!?!
Hi. I'm due for surgery at about end of June 07.
I know ppl who had cysts and it doesn't effect sex as you have the other ovary. Plus nowadays they do the smallest surgery to remove the cyst. So the recovery would be very quick depending on how they plan to remove it for you whether it is a large incision or small. I would ask your ob/gen.

Hi, I just had surgery to remove a dermoid cyst this past Monday, four days ago. I have an incision approximately 3 inches across on my lower stomach. After the surgery, the doctor told me that the cyst was not there once they cut me open. It had disappeared. During my several ultrasounds, the cyst was determined to be 3.5 inches. I had the ultrasounds two weeks before my surgery. I am so confused on how this happened. I have a followup apointment on March 11.
I'm 28 turning 29 soon.... my medical health history started when I was 15.. I had a lump on my lower adominal.. .. ignored it hoping it would go away... but it was so sore that one day I was doing some trampoline exercise at school whenI hurt my stomach doing an exercise and was in really serious pain, where I couldn't walk... and went to the doctors straight away, who then advise me to go to the hospital next day with my mum...Anyway to cut the story short after tests.. they realise I had Ovarian cyts... so I had an operation in which the cysts were removed and lucky for me they left all my ovaries there...
It was later discovered i had the dermoid cyst and a teratoma on my left ovary and just a benign cyst on my right. Unfotunate for me.. they found malignant cells and I was diagnose with Cancer.... Obviously I went through the chemotherapy treatment.. lost my hair and went bold in my teens ... and had to wear a wig to school.... having successfully recovered, 7 yrs later I discovered I was having the same sharp pains I use to have when i was 15.. so made an appointment with the doctors... they told me a cyst has grown again.. so once a gain I went through a 2nd operation. This time round am very lucky to find that they were just Benign Dermoids... in which they have taken out.... After the 2nd operation I thought the cysts may stay away... until 2 yrs after this operation... and through a usual check up the doctors they have noticed that the dermoids have grown for the 3rd time!.. since then I go on a 6mthly check up... and so far the Dermoids are not giving me too much problems and doesn't appear to be growing... until recently I had a scan and they said that the volume had increase suggesting that it's growing.
My dilemma now is that I'm getting married soon and want to start a family with my partner. But what do I do?
The only way to remove dermoids is via surgery... and yes it is possble to get pregnant as I have my right ovary which appears normal.. and even on my left ovary healthy tissues is seen.
But I have read that by leaving the Dermoids there my chance of conceiving is low and it can cause future problems, ... .. plus is it safe to have a baby growing with a dermoid cyst?
Or do I go for the 3rd surgery, whilst the dermoid is still a bout 4cm(though the dermoid can grow back again)as I 've already been cut down the same line twice... ... which means if I go for this, it will be my 3rd operation...
My scars right now is fine.. but I really don't want a messed up stomach...and if my pregnancy is complicated I might need a C section.. so I'll be cut the 4th time... so u can see right now I' don't know what the right thing to do is...... and yes I'll be speaking to my doctor end of april once I'm married... - but i don't think they have the answer too, as it's my body at the end of the day and it has to be my decision...

I AM 43 AND 8 MONTHS AGO I HAD A 4 DERMOID CYST REMOVED. THE CYST HAD TAKEN OVER MY OVARIES. I HAD NO NORMAL OVARY TISSUE. THE 2 CYST ON MY LEFT OVARY WEIGHED 2POUNDS AND 1 POUNDS. THE RIGHT ALSO HAD 2 THAT WEIGHED 1POUND TOGETHER. I HAD TO BE IN THE HOSPITAL 5 DAYS,RECOVERY TIME ABOUT 3 WEEKS.
Hey everyone. I too was freaked out when I first found out I had a dermoid. I waited for a year hoping that maybe the size would be reduced, but instead it got bigger and the doctor found that it was on both sides. One was almost 9 inch and other was 6.5. I am only 5'1, 100 pounds so naturally, i was a little freaked out. fortuntely, there was no pain at all, just light periods.
A week ago, I had it removed and the process was not as bad as i thought. Both my ovaries were left in tact. i went home the same day, loaded up on the pain killrs and by day 2, i was feeling fine without needing the pain killers and was able to walk. this was partially because i had laproscoptic surgery and I am a healthy young woman. When i first discovered i had a dermoid, the doc said, i might have both ovaries taken out, hed cut a 4 inch incision on my abdomen and likely that i wont be able to have kids. i was very very uncomfortable with that doc and so i went to another one... he reassured me that these procedures are common and that it is a minor surgery with a slight possibility of difficulties which result in taking out the ovary(s). I asked him about scarring because I dont want a big incision and he told me it would be small cuts and thru the belly button. i felt comfortable with this doctor and felt a good vibe from him. sometims,if u dont bond or feel good with a surgeon, its best to see several and ask lots of questions to ensure u chose the best. Most of these types of surgeries are not that difficult as opposed to other surgeries but depends on the dexterity of the surgeon. I personally would go with an older surgeon as opposed to a younger one just cuz they have more experience.
dont worry ladies.. there are always solutions to everything.

I was thirteen years old and a freshman in high school. I went out for basketball and couldn't hack the tough practices. Turns out I had a thirteen pound dermoid cyst on an ovary. Emergency removal of the cyst, ovary and tube was done. I have a terribly crooked and wide scar above my belly button to the hairline. Now Im 29 and have unbearable peroids. They last from 10-14 days and recur with only a week between. Birth control doesnt seem to regulate it. Ive become anemic which causes marked fatigue and also have severe cramping. Im suffering and there doesnt seem to be much to be done about it. If anyone could share similar experiences or insight I would appreciate it. thankyou

Hello everybody, my name is Kera and I am 22. I recently discovered also that I have dermoid cysts about 6 months ago through an abdomanal scan. They found I had 5 cysts altogther, 4 dermoids and one just full of liquid on both ovaries. You could either have keyhole surgery or open surgery but as some of the dermoids are solid cysts they will do open. So a few weeks ago I was told iwould need surgery to remove these and I was petrified like you all are. Last Thursday I had the surgery and was in hospital for 3 days. They recommend 2 to 3 days in hospital and stay off work for 6-12 weeks.
The surgery only tppl 2 hours and they made an incision on my bikini line, I will admit it was very painful when I woke up but they give you morphine and painkillers an look after you very well. Also for the 1st 2 days they recommend using a cafata but you are able to move around the day after surgery. You will feel quite tender and sore afterwards and will do so for a few days or weeks depending on your body and how much. You move around and also take it easy. Its been a week now and I have been resting loads and now had my stitches out and the scar is nearly invisible just abit bruised. The surgery is not hing to worry about. It will take a few months to gain your full fitness again but it is worth it to not be in nemore pain with the cysts. I hope I have helped anyone who is getting this surgery done. If you have any questions at all then you can
Thank you
