Hello,

I am 23 years old and have already have had my right ovary removed when I was 19. A year later another dermoid grew in my left ovary. I recommend to any one going into surgery, to fallow the surgery by taking birth control pills to prevent future cyst. If I would have known this before it would have deff saved me this awful feeling of what the future holds, going back and forth on diff birth control n this pain! Dont be conformed by what the Doctors tell you! Dermoids could easily happen more then once even when removed.

I'm 23 and I've just had a dermoid cyst removed. 7.5 inches, weighed 7lbs on my right ovary, also attached to my uterus.
I had to fight for a scan. Then when they found a 7cm cyst, a month later when I had my operation I had an emergency c-section (if you like) to have it removed. Completely solid with hair 30cm long, teeth fragments, bone fragments and skin.
After 1 week I was back walking around, and after 2 weeks back to work. After 4 months of not having any periods (I chose to carry on taking my pill to recover internally) I am severely suffering with the pain. I'm really quite worried about it, but I've done some research and it's quite normal.
As scary as it may seem, you'll be totally fine. Yes, the camera in the belly button hurts, and it's awkward to bend for a few weeks. Yes, the scars either side of your tummy look raw, but they heal and eventually you forget they are there.
I suffered with Post traumatic stress because I went in thinking I was having a 7cm cyst removed, not a 7.5 inch tumor. No matter how many times people tell you you're ok, you have to deal with it yourself. I cried for weeks after my operation. this is normal too.
I hope some info I've given helps someone. It is a common procedure, but if you're like me, it doesn't matter if it's common or not, it's alien to me and my body and its scary.
Chin up because when you recover you can really feel the difference especially in energy levels!! (I suffer with CFS too so it was a huge improvement!)
stay strong, focused on getting better, and you'll recover just fine. x

Hello. I am in the hospital as we speak after having a dermoid cyst removed. They are mostly benign and since mine was so big, I had a c section type procedure. Sometimes they can be removed vaginally so the recovery depends mostly on the procedure u had to remove it. I can't work for about three to four weeks and the pain is the same as someone who had a c-section. I am on the maternity floor.

Hi

I had emergency surgery in March after I was admitted to hospital in agonizing abdominal pain. They stuck a camera in below my belly button and found a cyst, so they then cut me open c-section style and removed the cyst and my left ovary as the cyst had twisted around it, which was causing all the pain. The c-section cut was really painful, and it took weeks until i could move around without too much pain. Unfortunately about 10 days after the surgery I had to go back to hospital because the c-section scar started bleeding quite heavily. They said it was a haematoma and kept me in hospital another night for observation. I then had to have a dressing on the area, and go to the Dr's everyday for the nurse to change it, for about 2 weeks. The bleeding then subsided and I was able to change the dressing myself, and it stopped after about a month. I talked to a nurse and told her they didn't put a drain in after my surgery and she said that they probably should have and this might not have happened if they did.

I kept having cramping for the following months after and my stomach was still really swollen. The Drs told me this was all normal. Then I had an ultrasound recently and they told me I have a cyst on my right ovary. It was only 4 months since my surgery and I already have another cyst. I knew it could happen, but just seems so soon. I'm not even fully recovered from the first surgery and now I'm scared I have to have another one. They are doing another ultrasound in about 2 months and then the Dr will go from there. I'm just afraid as I'm 28 and have no kids, I don't want to lose my other ovary. But this time they said the cyst is about 4cm right now, so hopefully if I have it removed they can do it laporoscope.

Hello, I am 32 years old and i found out that I had dermoid cyst on both my ovaries when i was pregnant with my 2nd child. I had a c section with both of my children. the cysts are 10x9 cm on the left and 9x6 on the right. I am very scared, reading this post has helped me a bit to know that this is a common thing. the problem i am having is that the doctor wants me to have surgery but he wants to do the surgery down the middle of my belly, due to the scar tissue from my 2 c sections. I really dont want to do that due to the scar it will leave. I am really scared and dont know what to do. I guess im scared to be put under, what if i have complications? my children will be without a mother. I am very scared and confused at the same time. Please Help

This is wrong. Dermoid cysts cannot go away by themselves. They must be removed by surgery.

I have just had my right ovary removed because it had a dermoid cyst growing in it , and by the day I had it removed it had grown to 6x6cm. I just wanted people to know that if it is a fluid cyst only this type is more likely to go by it's self but a dermoid cyst has to be removed because it is different it's made up of cells that produce hair, teeth, bone and that is what the dermoid cyst is made of so surgery is always needed. The reason they removed the cyst and my complete ovary was because of tumour markers that where slightly high in a blood test. I am only 28 years old with no children , so I was very upset about this for weeks until I had the operation and I still cannot rest until the test results come back from the hospital to tell me if it had cancer in or not so Oreilly dermoids cysts are not always benign because if there was no risk at all of cancer they would have just removed the cyst and left my ovary so please don't give people false information, that is not to say anyone who has a dermoid cyst that is is cancerous but you must keep it in mind that there is a chance it could be so be prepared  until you receive test results who knows.!!We ust all hope for the best....

Hi, I've got a dermoid cyst, on the waiting list to get it removed and I have noticed a spotty rash on my face, really bad nausea and pain of course. I've always had to have facial hair removal so don't know if that has got worse or not. I hope your operation went well, you will be well over that now I hope. I can't wait to finally get mine, I feel worse every day!

I also just recently found out I had one on my right ovary and left. They removed the one on my right just recently. surgery wasn't to bad. But still painful. My one on my right at 9 cm and the one on my left is almost 2 cm. I am so scared because my doctor told me that as soon as I get married in September to start trying to have kids because he doesn't know how fast the one on my left will grow. This is not something I wanted to hear at 17 years old. :/ so does anyone know how fast it will grow? Is there anything I can do to stunt the growth? Like change in diet? Will birth control help stunt the growth? Any help will be appreciated!!

what does the rash look like? is it circular with bumps?

Since they know what it is depending on the size of it they will probably do a laparoscopy and remove it that way. It's not dangerous and the surgery is very simple. I have a dermatoid cyst removed last week. You have to take your time with recovery though since they cut into your abdominal muscle. A dermatoid cyst is not usually cancerous which to me was a relief and one less thing to worry about.

If you are going to be so offensive with your reply perhaps you should have all the knowledge you claim to have. A dermoid cyst NEVER disappears. She was born with it and only recently it started to grow. It will not shrink nor will it ever go away without surgery to remove it.

Dermoid cysts do not just disappear by themselves. You are getting dermoid cysts confused with simple cysts.

so what did they figure out? my has now all of a sudden disappeared.

Did you ever get an answer? I am in exactly the same position and very worried.
