I came across the term hypnosurgery while reading some magazine on the train home a while back. Sadly, I got to my station and put the mag back where it came from in a hurry. It left me with some questions - what is hypnosurgery? And what are the differences between hypnosurgery and hypnotherapy, which I have heard of before, like most people? Or are these two one and the same thing?
No, hypnosurgery and hypnotherapy are two completely different treatments, though they use the same technique to get to the desired place, and that is hypnosis. In difference to hypnotherapy, hypnosurgery actually refers to the carrying out of a surgical procedure while the patient is under hypnosis, instead of traditional anaesthesia. It is still experimental, but hypnosurgery is already being used more and more when it comes to small procedures. Interesting stuff!
