I have a few questions, mine where stage 2 and only came out after bm and after few hours they would go back on there own but since having the banding done they have not retreated and stayed outside since, is this the same with most?
They have also grew yellow kind of blisters on top and look like they are ready to burst and I am constantly staining underwear with blood and mucus as always weeping anyone the same 5 days after?
Also my letter stated I was going to recieve local anistetic for this and I never recieved it they just went ahead without anything and never gave me any pain relief for going home anyone the same? should state I am in the uk.
thanks
I had a colonoscopy on Wednesday May 11th I got home about 12:30 PM. My doctor told me he put three bands on. By 1:30PM my first band fell off. I was horrified that it fell off so soon because of the pain I was having. The mere thought that I went through it for nothing infuriated me. I called my doctor and they told me it would be fine because there were 2 more bands in place. I woke up Thursday morning feeling like I had to have a bowel movement. When I went to the bathroom I discovered that the other 2 bands also came off. By now I am seeing red!!!! Did I really go through this all for nothing???? I did pass something that could have been the hemrroids (I think). I had to go to the hospital that day so I went to talk to my doctor about this and I was told that they have never had anyone lose all of the bands in less than 24hrs. I still can not have a bowel movement and the pain I am experiancing is that of hemrroids and menstral cramps times 1000!!!!! This is by far the worst thing I have ever endured. Can someone PLEASE tell me how long this lasts? I am also wondering how long should I go without a bowel movement before I should be concerned? I have read that banding can cause obstruction of the bowel. I am so bloated that I look like I am 3 months pregnant. I would NEVER recommend this procedure to anyone!!!!!
I had two bands put on three days ago and so far no end in sight to the pain. I received no anesthetic during or after and was merely told that the initial pain would subside in an hour and I would be a little sore for up to a week. Go right ahead and go about your business as usual, it'll be no problem (hah!). No other instructions. Called the next day after not sleeping at all that night and told them I was dying. Got a prescription for Percocet, which helps but tends to constipate you which is the last thing you want. The only complete, short-term relief I have gotten is taking Percocet with alcohol, which of course is not recommended. But that's the only thing that has worked for me up to this point. I'll keep you posted. Hope this will help some of you.
If you're in pain and haven't yet, TAKE A VERY HOT BATH!! The relief was immediate and nearly complete. the relief lasted long enough to get my sanity back.
I had 2 banded today while I was in for a colonoscopy . About 3 hours after waking up the discomfort became significant so i took some of the prescribed pain meds and a HOT bath. I didn't have the intense pain some have described here. More like VERY uncomfortable case of constipation. almost like a foreign object is lodged in your lower colon, which very well may be the case. The degree of pain/discomfort is subjective of course. I'm not sure if someone else would consider mine severe but I would call it highly uncomfortable and irritating. I've had no problem uninating as some have said. I'm not sure how much it matters but I'm 41 years old and in otherwise good health.
No BM yet. Not looking forward to it. I;m also taking metamucel to help soften the blow, so to speak. I'd absolutely get a script for antibiotics and pain meds. Oh and try a hot bath like I said. It was a big help for me.
I had 4 bandings done one week ago today. I was sedated by IV for the procedure (a first for me) which was really nice because I don't remember a thing. What started as a colonoscopy, ended in them banding 4 hemorrhoids, which I knew was a possibility going into the procedure. I have read in many places that most doctors won't do more than 1 or 2 at a time because of the pain, but I believe if they only did two, I would never have gone back to get the others done. Better to suffer just once in my opinion.
The doctor said that I would feel minor discomfort after the procedure, this was an understatement. The aftermath following the procedure was probably the most painful thing that I have ever gone through in my entire 30 years, but if it fixes the problem, the week of awful pain will be well worth it.
The procedure happened on a Friday morning, afterwards, I felt pressure in my abdomen and a feeling like I needed "to go". I went home and slept most of the day and the real pain began that night.
Saturday was horrific; I took 2 Vicodin every 3 hours in addition to 3 Motrin every 6 hours. I found that a heating pad between my legs while lying down was the most comfortable position. I stayed in the fetal position all day, praying the paid would decrease. It didn't.
Sunday was just as bad as Saturday. Very little sleep meant that I was exhausted and in great pain. I called the doctor and they said all they could do was increase my Vicodin dose, which I didn't want because it was making me nauseous. I asked for a numbing cream because the outside of my anus was KILLING me and they prescribed Lidocain, which I think helped a lot. I just applied it to the outside of my rectum and a little bit inside as far as I could get my smallest finger inside (not recommended for internal use), and it helped a bit, or maybe I just hoped it did.
Monday I went into work late because I was told by the doctor that I should be back to my normal schedule right away. I went in to work around 11am and after a BM at 3pm, I had to leave because of the pain. I went home and took a hot salt bath and that helped a lot. I didn't have any pain in the bath.
Tuesday I had scheduled a work meeting to be held in my building (convenient but didn't plan it this way because of the surgery) and while I was in pain in the morning, it subsided pretty quickly after I took 2 Vicodin and stayed seated. I felt a little better in the afternoon so I went to work but quickly realized that I shouldn't be on my feet once there. I spent the rest of the work day at my desk.
Wednesday was my first full day back at work and I felt a little better although I still had to take Vicodin the night before to sleep.
Thursday was a little better than Wednesday and the first day that I made it through the day without pain killers, that night, I tried falling asleep naturally but that didn't really work so I took only 1 Vicodin and slept intermittently.
Today is Friday and I feel ok, still soreness and a little pain. I had my first normal BM without a lot of pain so to me, things are looking up! I also do not have the problematic hemorrhoids anymore so that is great.
In summary, if I had to do this all over again, I would, but I would have take off work for the week or at least half and I would have like to have that numbing cream from the very beginning. If you have hemorrhoids, this is a good clean and easy procedure if you can put up with terrible pain for 5 days. I have heard the cutting / laser procedure will take a much longer time to recover, so I think the banding was good.
I Hope this helps!! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Yes the feeling of discomfort was great and the feeling of having to have a bowel movement was there, even thought there was nothing to come out.
My experience is that I saw what I believe to be a band in the bowel 4 days later. I have been able to have nowel movements but it feels as if something is blocking the "exit" and when I do go....man it feels as if the blockage is sore and in the way.
So I see that this will improve...but my question is : How soon and when the roids are gone do BMs become more comfortable.....cannot stand this it is very uncomfortable.... Using fiber etc....warm water etc...
