I have a son that is 20 years old, and I am sure he does not smoke cigarettes or drug. I am saying this to explain he was very good young man and he never gave me reason to doubt. Anyway, yesterday I have found in his desk Dilaudin tablets. When I asked him what does it uses for, he told me for pains, since he had surgery few months ago. I was wondering should I be worried, or it could be truth his doctor prescribed him Dilaudin pills?

I have to be honest with you and say that you have serious reason to be worried about. First, I would recommend you to consult doctor who was responsible for his surgery. You need to be sure did he use Dilaudin in that time. Dilaudin or Hydromorphone is very strong painkiller, which is why it is usually used in hospitals. It can cause red rush and respiratory distress due to its strength, and beside those, some other side effects as well. Dilaudin is extremely addictive medicament, even stronger then well-known morphine. That is why, first you have to check if your son has the prescription for Dilaudin. Find out if he really needs to take it for his therapy. After this, find out if he has prescription, because the question is how he got Dilaudin and what for. Be aware because Dilaudin is very addictive drug, so you will need a lot of strength to help your son get rid of this drug if it is unnecessary.
